Farabee, a forward, is expected to need 3-4 months to recover. The Flyers confirmed he'll have the same surgery as Vegas Golden Knights center Jack Eichel and Chicago Blackhawks forward Tyler Johnson; Eichel had surgery Nov. 12, 2021, and made his Golden Knights debut Feb. 16.
Farabee was fifth on the Flyers with 34 points (17 goals, 17 assists) in 63 games this season. He missed seven games with an upper-body injury when he fell shoulder-first into the boards during a game against the New York Rangers on Dec. 1, and was out for a month after sustaining an upper-body injury against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Jan. 20.
He returned Feb. 26 and had 16 points (six goals, 10 assists) in 30 games to finish the season.
The Flyers (25-46-11) finished last in the Metropolitan Division and failed to make the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the second straight season. They hired John Tortorella as coach June 17 to replace Mike Yeo, who was fired, and have the No. 5 pick in the 2022 Upper Deck NHL Draft, which will be held at Bell Centre in Montreal on July 7-8.
The 2022-23 season will start Oct. 11 in North America. The 2022 NHL Global Series will be played Oct. 7-8 in Prague, Czech Republic.
