Siegenthaler was traded to the Devils by the Washington Capitals on April 11, 2021 for a conditional third-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft. He signed a two-year, $2.5 million contract ($1.125 AAV) with New Jersey on July 9, 2021.
A second-round pick (No. 57) by the Capitals in the 2015 NHL Draft, Siegenthaler has 27 points (three goals, 24 assists) in 175 regular-season games and no points in 11 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
The Devils (27-46-9) were seventh in the Metropolitan Division last season and have not made the playoffs since 2017-18. They added depth at defenseman by signing Brendan Smith to a two-year contract July 13 and selecting Simon Nemec with the No. 2 pick in the 2022 NHL Draft.
