Jonathan Ericsson out 6-8 weeks for Red Wings

WASHINGTON -- Detroit Red Wings defenseman Jonathan Ericsson is expected to miss 6-8 weeks after fracturing his wrist during a 6-3 loss to the Washington Capitals on Thursday, coach Jeff Blashill said.
Ericsson was injured on a boarding hit behind the Red Wings net by Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom with 4:09 remaining in the first period. After getting up slowly, Ericsson exited immediately to the Red Wings locker room and did not return.

Blashill initially said that Ericsson would miss a minimum of eight weeks but later added he did not know the exact timetable so 6-8 weeks might be a better estimate.
"I don't have a total timetable, but I know it's a fractured wrist so to me that would put him in that frame," Blashill said.
The Red Wing did get some good news on goaltender Jimmy Howard, who tweaked his sprained right knee during an American Hockey League conditioning stint game with Grand Rapids against Manitoba on Wednesday. After Howard was re-evaluated on Thursday, Blashill said, "I don't think it's anything serious. It's still day to day right now. We'll see where it's at."
Howard hasn't played for the Red Wings since injuring his right knee against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Dec. 20.
