When general manager Stan Bowman approached the microphone to make the No. 29 pick, he stopped short, creating a buzz in the crowd before stepping aside to let Blackhawks Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane select forward Henri Jokiharju.
Bowman reminded the crowd that the Blackhawks selected Toews No. 3 in the 2006 NHL Draft and Kane No. 1 in 2007. Kane made sure everyone caught the part where he was a higher draft pick than Toews.
Jokiharju described the moment like he was in a dream.
"It's unbelievable," he said. "I can't say a word. I was nervous, and when I heard my name it was a [great] moment in my life. I didn't hear it. I just heard 'Henri,' and I was like, 'Oh, yeah!'"
And considering Jokiharju was singing the Blackhawks' goal song, "Chelsea Dagger" right after he was drafted, it seems he'll be fitting in just fine.
