The 28-year-old goalie was 7-11-0 with a 4.15 goals-against average and .877 save percentage in 22 games (17 starts) for the Blue Jackets this season. He could have become an unrestricted free agent July 13.
Korpisalo missed the final 17 games after having hip surgery in March and was expected to need six months to recover.
"Joonas has been a consummate pro during his Blue Jackets career and just two years ago, was coming of a season in which he was selected to play in the All-Star Game and had a record-setting performance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs," Columbus general manager Jarmo Kekalainen said. "His 2021-22 season was derailed by injury, but we fully believe he will return to form and are happy that he will continue to be a part of our team."
Selected by Columbus in the third round (No. 62) of the 2012 NHL Draft, Korpisalo is 76-67-21 with a 3.04 GAA, .902 save percentage and three shutouts in 182 games (164 starts). He is also 3-5 with a 1.90 GAA, .941 save percentage and two shutouts in nine playoff games and set the NHL record for saves in a game when he made 85 in a 3-2 loss in five overtimes to the Tampa Bay Lightning in Game 1 of the 2020 Eastern Conference First Round.
The Blue Jackets (37-38-7) finished sixth in the Metropolitan Division, failing to qualify for the playoffs for the second straight season.
