Binnington, Bergeron, Strome named Stars of the Week

NEW YORK - St. Louis Blues goaltender Jordan Binnington, Boston Bruins center Patrice Bergeron and Chicago Blackhawks center Dylan Strome have been named the NHL's "Three Stars" for the week ending Feb. 10.

FIRST STAR - JORDAN BINNINGTON, G, ST. LOUIS BLUES

Binnington went 3-0-0 with a 1.31 goals-against average, .954 save percentage and one shutout to lift the Blues (27-22-5, 59 points) to their sixth straight win overall and into the first Wild Card position in the Western Conference. He made 22 saves in a 3-2 victory over the Florida Panthers Feb. 5. Binnington then stopped all 32 shots he faced for his second career shutout in a 1-0 overtime win against the Tampa Bay Lightning Feb. 7. He added 29 saves in a 3-2 triumph over the Nashville Predators Feb. 9. The 25-year-old Richmond Hill, Ont., native - who made his first NHL start Jan. 7 after being selected in the third round (87th overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft - has appeared in 13 games this season, compiling a 9-1-1 record with a 1.72 goals-against average and .931 save percentage. Binnington, who is 5-0-0 in his past five contests dating to Jan. 23 (1.38 GAA, .942 SV%, 1 SO), is the sixth rookie in St. Louis history to post a five-game winning streak and first since current teammate Jake Allen from March 7-16, 2013 (5-0-0).

SECOND STAR - PATRICE BERGERON, C, BOSTON BRUINS

Bergeron ranked second in the League with 4-3-7 in four outings to propel the Bruins (31-17-8, 70 points) to a 3-0-1 week and into third place in the Atlantic Division. The 15-season veteran played in his 1,000th NHL game Feb. 5, scoring twice in a 3-1 victory over the New York Islanders. He became the sixth player in League history to record multiple goals while skating in his 1,000th game and the first to achieve the feat since Feb. 9, 2012 (Chris Phillips w/ OTT). Bergeron added one goal in a 4-3 shootout loss to the New York Rangers Feb. 6. He then posted 1-2-3, including his seventh career overtime goal, in a 5-4 triumph over the Los Angeles Kings Feb. 9 before closing the week with the primary assist on Brad Marchand's overtime winner in a 2-1 victory against the Colorado Avalanche Feb. 10. The 33-year-old Ancienne-Lorette, Que., native is averaging a career-best 1.27 points per game this season, ranking third on Boston with 20-31-51 in 40 appearances.

THIRD STAR - DYLAN STROME, C, CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS

Strome collected 2-5-7 in three contests to help the Blackhawks (23-24-9, 55 points) extend their overall winning streak to seven games and move within four points of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. He scored his third career game-winning goal in a 6-2 triumph over the Edmonton Oilers Feb. 5. Strome then recorded consecutive three-point performances, notching three assists in a 4-3 overtime victory against the Vancouver Canucks Feb. 7 followed by 1-2-3 in a 5-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings Feb. 10. The 21-year-old Mississauga, Ont., native has registered 14-22-36 in 52 total outings this season, including 11-19-30 in 32 games since being acquired by Chicago Nov. 25.
