P.O, a Pittsburgh Penguins forward and Mathieu, an Ottawa Senators forward, were playing against each other for the first time in their NHL careers at PPG Paints Arena on Friday. In the third period, they got sent to the big-league equivalent of their room - the penalty box - for hitting each other.
With just under seven minutes left to play, the Joseph brothers crossed paths in the corner. Both had their sticks up on the hit. Both were sent off the ice for high-sticking.
And in front of their parents, no less.
The reaction in the crowd from Frantzi Joseph and France Taillon was pretty priceless. Both threw their hands up in disbelief and chuckled.
"That was not a penalty on me. I don't know what happened there," Mathieu said. "I think he got his own stick in the face. I just got caught up in there... But stuff happens. I'm sure my parents had a good laugh about it."
"I kind of told him that it was my own stick somehow," P.O Joseph said. "It's always fun to see him on the ice, battling and, you know, we don't see each other much. So it's fun to see each other grow up, as people, as players. It was fun."
And to think before the game, it all started so nicely.
