Josh Brown signed a two-year contract with the Ottawa Senators on Monday.
The contract has an average annual value of $1.2 million, with Brown earning $1 million next season and $1.4 million in 2021-22.
The 26-year-old defenseman could have been a restricted free agent Oct. 9. He was traded to the Senators by the Florida Panthers for a fourth-round pick (No. 95) in the 2020 NHL Draft on Oct. 2. Brown scored eight points (three goals, five assists) and averaged 13:25 of ice time in 56 regular-season games for the Panthers this season. He did not have a point in two postseason games.
"Josh Brown is a big, strong defenseman who plays a physical style of game," Senators general manager Pierre Dorion said. "He's a defensive defenseman who skates very well and who is exceptionally competitive. He's also a very good shot blocker who clears a lot of space in front of the net. We're looking forward to seeing him in our lineup."
