Las Vegas hopes to have name by September

The new Las Vegas NHL team now expects to reveal its nickname in September, Murray Craven, an adviser to owner Bill Foley, told the Review-Journal on Friday.
"Everyone wants the name announced," Craven said. "We're dying for it too."

The team will begin play in the 2017-18 NHL season.
When George McPhee was introduced as Las Vegas general manager July 13, Foley said, "Our goal is to have a logo and a team name ASAP." The process has been held up primarily by trademark issues.
"We're exchanging names and ideas with the NHL and they've come back with names for us," Craven said. "They've been great to us, as has Adidas, who have some great ideas for uniform designs. … But ultimately, it's going to be Bill's call what the name will be."

Craven told the newspaper the hope is to have a nickname, logo, colors and a uniform in September.
"You want a simple, classic design," he said. "… It's very important you get the right look because it's how people identify with your team."
The report said the team "does own the copyrights, trademarks and domain names to a few names, most notably Silver Knights." Foley is a graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and the team is aligned with Black Knight Sports & Entertainment.
