Los Angeles Kings season snapshot fantasy honors

With the NHL pausing the 2019-20 regular season on March 12 due to the concerns surrounding the coronavirus, NHL.com is taking stock of each of the League's 31 teams.

Today, a fantasy recap of the Los Angeles Kings at the pause:

Fantasy MVP: Anze Kopitar, C (rank: 65) -- The Los Angeles Kings have scored the second-fewest goals in the NHL (177), but Kopitar has remained a valuable fantasy skater with 62 points (21 goals, 41 assists) in 70 games. He's had a bounce-back fantasy season, exceeding his point total from last season (60) in 11 fewer games, and he's provided category coverage with a plus-6 rating, 21 power-play points, and 135 shots on goal skating mostly on the top line with Alex Iafallo and Dustin Brown. Kopitar leads the Kings in goals, assists, points, power-play goals (seven) and power-play points.

Biggest surprise: Alex Iafallo, LW -- After going undrafted in most fantasy leagues, Iafallo has emerged as a viable streaming option with 43 points (17 goals, 26 assists) in 70 games, second on the Kings behind Kopitar. Iafallo's performance since Dec. 21 (27 points in 33 games) has made him among the better fantasy waiver-wire additions. He has formed chemistry on the top line and power play with Kopitar, and as a result, he has NHL career highs in goals, assists, points and PPP (nine).

Unsung hero: Cal Petersen, G --After the Kings traded goalie Jack Campbell to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Feb. 5, Petersen was recalled from Ontario of the American Hockey League and has gone 5-3-0 with a 2.64 goals-against average and .922 save percentage in eight games. It's a small sample size, but Los Angeles has given Petersen an opportunity to show his value for the future. The Kings' No. 1 goalie, Jonathan Quick, went 5-2-1 with a 1.84 GAA, a .941 save percentage and one shutout over the same span.
