MONTREAL --Jack Campbell made 40 saves for his first NHL shutout for the Los Angeles Kings in a 3-0 win against the Montreal Canadiens in their home opener at Bell Centre on Thursday.

"I thought he was really seeing the puck well, he was really tracking it well," Los Angeles coach John Stevens said. "It really kind of stabilizes your team, especially on the road when a team like Montreal comes hard. So he was terrific tonight."
Jeff Carter had a goal and two assists, and Adrian Kempe and Michael Amadio scored for the Kings (2-1-1).

"It was pretty cool, opening night and me and the boys came out and played great, so a big two points," Campbell said.
Carey Price made 26 saves for the Canadiens (1-1-1), who went 0-for-4 on the power play.
"We definitely have to move the puck quicker," Montreal coach Claude Julien said. "And then when you get those shooting opportunities, you've got to shoot. I think there were times tonight where I felt our guys were trying to force those cross passes instead of maybe just put pucks at the net and trying to jump on those loose pucks."
Kempe scored to give Los Angeles a 1-0 lead at 3:56 of the first period. After coming out of the penalty box, he took a pass from Tyler Toffoli and skated down the left side before shooting past Price from the top of the left circle on a 2-on-1.

Amadio made it 2-0 at 11:31 with a one-timer in the slot. Jaret Anderson-Dolan got his first NHL point with an assist on the play.
"It felt great," Anderson-Dolan said. "That's kind of the way I'm going to create chances, is getting in hard on the forecheck and being tenacious on the puck, and I was able to do that."
Carter extended the lead to 3-0 at 9:06 of the third period with a shot from the slot that beat Price five-hole.

Mike Reilly appeared to score for Montreal at 10:59 of the third period. It was ruled a goal after review confirmed it entered the net, but Los Angeles coach John Stevens then challenged, and it was overturned because of goalie interference.

"We came out of the gates a little bit slow, so we were playing catch-up. And sometimes when you play catch-up like that, the bounces don't go your way. So it's important to start on time in this League against a team like that." -- Canadiens forward Max Domi
