Campbell's first win completes Kings sweep of Golden Knights

Jack Campbell made 41 saves for his first NHL win, and the Los Angeles Kings swept back-to-back games against the Vegas Golden Knights with a 4-1 win at T-Mobile Arena on Tuesday.
Campbell, selected by the Dallas Stars with the No. 11 pick in the 2010 NHL Draft, made his second career start.

"It just feels really good. It's been a long time coming," Campbell said. "The boys played great in front of me tonight."

Campbell was recalled from Ontario of the American Hockey League on Feb. 22, one day after the Kings traded goaltender Darcy Kuemper to the Arizona Coyotes. Dallas traded Campbell to Los Angeles on June 25, 2016.
"The guys in this room are awesome," Campbell said. "They made me feel like a part of the team right away ever since I got traded here. I just knew I had to do my job because I knew the guys would do their job."

Los Angeles (35-24-5), which defeated Vegas 3-2 in overtime at Staples Center on Monday, moved ahead of the idle Anaheim Ducks into third place in the Pacific Division with its fifth win in seven games (5-2-0).
Kyle Clifford, Tyler Toffoli, Anze Kopitar and Jeff Carter scored for the Kings, who lead the Ducks by one point and trail the second-place San Jose Sharks by two points.
"It's the time of the year where every single point counts and we put ourselves in a hole before," Kopitar said. "The four points are what really counts right now."
William Karlsson scored his team-leading 34th goal for the Golden Knights (41-17-5), who are tied with the Nashville Predators for first place in the Western Conference and trail the Tampa Bay Lightning by two points for the NHL lead.
"I didn't like the score. That's one thing," Golden Knights coach Gerard Gallant said. "But we had some chances. We just didn't compete hard enough in the blue paint, and it looked like our team was tired."

Maxime Lagace made 26 saves for Vegas in his first start since Dec. 9. Marc-Andre Fleury started the past 11 games for the Golden Knights.
"Right now it's getting back to basics," Lagace said. "I thought we played pretty good tonight. It's about sticking to those details that make us the Vegas Golden Knights, a really good team.
"Sometimes you play really good, but the results aren't there. That one hurts, but we'll get back to it."
Karlsson scored at 5:27 of the first period to give the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead.
Clifford tied it 1-1 at 8:36, and Toffoli's goal off a turnover at 6:56 of the second period gave the Kings a 2-1 lead.
Kopitar made it 3-1 at 19:30 before Carter scored a 5-on-3 power-play goal at 18:02 of the third period for a 4-1 advantage.

"We worked hard," Gallant said. "We competed hard. We didn't play great. Every mistake we made they capitalized by putting the puck in the back of the net."

This was Campbell's first start since Oct. 20, 2013, a 6-3 loss against Anaheim. … Golden Knights forward Tomas Tatar played 12:38 in his Vegas debut and had four shots on goal and three hits. Tatar was acquired in a trade with the Detroit Red Wings on Monday. … Vegas forwards James Neal and Oscar Lindberg did not play after sustaining undisclosed injuries on Monday. Forward Tomas Hyka was recalled from Chicago of the American Hockey League on an emergency basis prior to the game. … Golden Knights defenseman Shea Theodore (illness) missed his sixth straight game.
