Eriksson, tied for second on the Bruins in points (48) and goals (23), will be in the lineup against the Calgary Flames at TD Garden on Tuesday (7 p.m. ET; SNF, NESN, NHL.TV).
"It's definitely nice to be still here," Eriksson said Tuesday in the Bruins dressing room. "It was kind of a stressful day yesterday and not really knowing what's going to happen. I'm just happy to be here. It's a lot easier for me and my family to stay here and finish the season and try to make this team make the (Stanley Cup) Playoffs and be a good team. So I'm really happy to be still here."
In the weeks before the deadline Eriksson said he was blocking out the trade rumors and contract negotiations. He had a stretch of seven goals scored in seven games but was goalless in his past three games leading up to the deadline. Eriksson admitted Tuesday he was distracted.
"Definitely the last couple days it got a little bit [uncomfortable]. More and more of my friends were asking what's going and it was just a lot of questions all the time," Eriksson said. "So I think a couple weeks ago I didn't really try to focus that much on that. But definitely the last couple days there was a lot of things going around. So now I'm still here and now I'm just going to focus on playing good and trying to make this team to go to the playoffs and play good."
Eriksson is in the final season of a six-year contract with an average annual value of $4.25 million. Sweeney said he's going to try to get Eriksson signed and the player is open to staying beyond this season.
"Yeah, now we have some more time to negotiate and maybe get something done and like I said, all I can do now is just to play games and try to win games and help this team," Eriksson said.
