The Maple Leafs were off and snuck onto the court of the NBA's Raptors at Air Canada Centre on Tuesday, where they showed off some truly not-great hoops ability.
Eight members of the Maple Leafs, including Mitchell Marner, Nazem Kadri, Leo Komarov and Auston Matthews, played Knockout on the floor during the session. Although nobody was great, Marner said Matthews, perhaps unsurprisingly, was the best.
"[Matthews] played basketball for a couple of years in Arizona," Marner told TSN. "He was putting guys in spin cycles and stuff."
Marner was one of the few bright spots on the floor, but that was basically because of his strong celebration game. He also brought a strong bit of trash talk abou Kadri's game.
"[Kadri] was probably the worst," Marner said jokingly. "When you call yourself the best of all time then start going out there and shooting air balls … it doesn't put a good perspective on it."
Neither Marner nor Kadri, who scored a hat trick against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday, will likely be quitting his day job to start a hoops career any time soon.
