The 30-year-old forward, who was an unrestricted free agent, scored 14 points (six goals, eight assists) in 36 regular-season games with the Minnesota Wild last season and did not score a point in three Stanley Cup Playoff games.
Johansson broke his arm during Game 3 of the Stanley Cup First Round against the Vegas Golden Knights on May 20 when he fell into the goal post. He had surgery the next day and is expected to be ready for the season.
"Marcus plays a fast game and brings us another veteran presence with a significant amount of playoff experience," Kraken general manager Ron Francis said. "His speed, skill and versatility will help our forward group."
Selected by the Washington Capitals in the first round (No. 24) of the 2009 NHL Draft, Johansson has scored 378 points (135 goals, 243 assists) in 684 regular-season games with the Wild, Buffalo Sabres, Boston Bruins, New Jersey Devils and Capitals, and 41 points (13 goals, 28 assists) in 97 playoff games.
The Kraken, who begin play as the 32nd NHL team this season, agreed to a two-year, $8 million contract ($4 million AAV) with defenseman Vince Dunn on Friday, avoiding a salary arbitration hearing scheduled for Aug. 14. Seattle selected Dunn from the St. Louis Blues in the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft on July 21.
The Kraken signed goalie Philipp Grubauer (six years, $35.4 million; $5.9 million AAV) and forwards Jaden Schwartz (five years, $27.5 million; $5.5 million AAV) and Alex Wennberg (three years, $13.5 million; $4.5 million AAV) on July 28.
