Golden Knights split

The Vegas Golden Knights started a new tradition this past season and capped it off in the best way possible.

After every hat trick at T-Mobile Arena, the Golden Knights grabbed a hat off the ice to take to the locker room as a keepsake. The tradition started with forward Jack Eichel's hat trick back in March and ended with, of course, captain Mark Stone's hat trick in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final to help clinch the franchise's first-ever championship.

Video of a mic'ed-up Bruce Cassidy -- who brought the tradition to Vegas as head coach -- surfaced Sunday. Right after Stone's third goal of Game 5, the coach made sure Stone picked a hat for the room.

"Stoney!" Cassidy called out to the forward. "Make sure you grab a hat for the room, right?"

When forward Reilly Smith found a snazzy yellow hat on the ice, he knew he had to grab it for Stone.

"That's a good one for Stoney," Smith said in the video, holding the hat on his stick and showing it to Cassidy.

"Grab that one for now, you never know," Cassidy said.

That's a hat that will certainly have a special place in the locker room for years to come.
