Stone had 30 points (nine goals, 21 assists) in 37 games this season, missing chunks of time due to injuries.
Vegas went 12-13-1 when Stone missed 26 games with a back injury from Feb. 9-April 9. The Golden Knights captain returned down the stretch when they fought for a berth in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but he had one assist in eight games. Vegas missed the playoffs for the first time since joining the NHL as an expansion team in 2017-18.
Golden Knights general manager Kelly McCrimmon said Monday that Stone had been seeing doctors and consultants through the Golden Knights training staff.
The surgery, a lumbar discectomy, was done in Los Angeles.
"It would be rehab over that period of time [in the offseason]," McCrimmon said. "Again, that's not 100 percent for certain, but it's certainly the most likely outcome at this time."
McCrimmon also said Robin Lehner's shoulder surgery went well, but he doesn't expect the goalie to have a timeline for his return until about a month into rehab. The Golden Knights announced April 25 that Lehner would have surgery for an injury sustained Feb. 9, when he made 27 saves in a 6-0 loss at the Calgary Flames.
Lehner went 23-17-2 with a 2.83 goals-against average and .907 save percentage in 44 games this season.
