Fashionable Barzal can't wait to wear Islanders new alternates

Mathew Barzal knows a hot look when he sees it, and after getting a sneak peek at the New York Islanders' alternate, which will be released on Monday, he's excited to wear it.

"Our third jersey that we got done this year, I saw it a little bit and it looks really good," Barzal told NHL.com. "You can tell all the fans it's going to be a good one."

Barzal signed autographs and took pictures with fans on Saturday at an appearance at the NHL Store in New York City, and battled a couple of little girls in bubble hockey.

The second-year forward earned a stylish reputation during his rookie season after diving into the city's fashion scene and giving his wardrobe a serious upgrade. He was
profiled in the New York Times Style
section in April and gave credit to former teammate Dennis Seidenberg and his wife Rebecca, who he lived with, for getting him to be more fashion conscious.

Barzal took the offseason to give his suit game a boost back home in Vancouver. He got a couple of classics for regular use, but also picked up a camo number and a light blue suit he's waiting for just the right occasion to wear.
But now that he's back in New York, he'll be on his streetwear kick.
"I like looking at (clothes) online and then I go in store," Barzal said. "I'm kind of a moody shopper. I have to be in the right mood, and then it could be a big day. Some days I like everything in the store and some days nothing will catch my eye."
Barzal admires the style of NBA players Russell Westbrook and James Harden and rappers A$AP Rocky and Travis Scott, who are all known for their bold high fashion looks that mix staples with luxury pieces. And he scans Instagram for clothes that stand out, but ultimately dresses in his own style.
"It's cool to look at and cool to take things from and the other stuff is just, you have to be an original, I think," Barzal said. "You have to like what you're wearing and like how it looks and feels."
