Tristan Jarry, 22, made eight saves on 10 shots in relief of Murray. He has stopped 41 of 45 shots in two straight wins after beginning his NHL career 0-1-2.
Pittsburgh selected Jarry in the second round (No. 44) of the 2013 NHL Draft, one year after they drafted Murray in the third round (No. 83). Jarry said Murray has provided advice.
"He kind of came to me," Jarry said. "It was one of those things where he said, 'Play your game.' He knows what I can do. We were together in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League] for a while. That was one of the big things. We know what we can do for each other and how we can push each other."
The Penguins recalled goalie Casey DeSmith, 26, from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Tuesday. He allowed three goals on 15 shots in his NHL debut, a 7-1 loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Oct. 29, after Murray allowed four goals on nine shots and was pulled.
DeSmith is 9-2-1 with a 2.29-goals against average and .924 save percentage in 12 AHL games this season.
"The shock's not quite as big coming up the second time," DeSmith said. "If I get in a game again, I'm sure the nerves won't be quite as tough on me."
Injuries have plagued Murray throughout his three NHL seasons.

Murray, who won the Stanley Cup twice as a rookie the past two seasons, missed Games 1 and 2 of the 2016 Eastern Conference First Round against the New York Rangers with an upper-body injury before finishing the Stanley Cup Playoffs 15-6 with a 2.08 goals-against average and .923 save percentage. He was sidelined for the first nine games of the 2016-17 NHL season after breaking his hand in a 4-3 loss by Team North America to Team Russia during the World Cup of Hockey 2016 on Sept. 19.
A lower-body injury sustained Dec. 28, 2016, kept Murray out three games until he returned Jan. 12, 2017. He missed the first 11 games of the 2017 playoffs with a lower-body injury before backing up goalie Marc-Andre Fleury in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Second Round against the Washington Capitals.
Murray took over after Fleury allowed four goals on nine shots in the first period of a 5-1 loss to the Ottawa Senators in Game 3 of the Eastern Conference Final. Murray allowed one goal on 20 shots in that game and was 7-3 with a 1.70 goals-against average, .937 save percentage and three shutouts in 11 playoff appearances.
Sullivan said he does not worry about Murray's durability.
"I think he'll be fine," Sullivan said. "We don't concern ourselves with it. I think we do as much as we can, as far as preparing all of our guys, not just Matt, to withstand the types of injuries we think we can avoid.
"There are some that, if we do our due diligence as far as strength and conditioning, flexibility and recovery and rehab, nutrition, we control all of those things, it should diminish some of the injuries we think we can avoid. There are others that occur because the game is a belligerent game."
The Vegas Golden Knights selected Fleury in the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft on June 21, making Murray Pittsburgh's No. 1 goaltender. Pittsburgh signed veteran goalie Antti Niemi to a one-year, $700,000 contract on July 1 but placed him on waivers Oct. 23.
Penguins captain Sidney Crosby said he doesn't expect Murray's injury to overwhelmingly impact their performance.
"We have confidence in every guy that goes in there," Crosby said. "[Jarry] has played great for us. [DeSmith] was good when he was thrown in there. It was a pretty tough situation that he had to go into, but he played well. So, I think we're going to do our best in front of them to help them out. Those guys can certainly hold their own."
