Mattias Janmark
agreed to a one-year, $2.25 million contract with the Chicago Blackhawks on Monday.

The 27-year-old forward was an unrestricted free agent. He scored 21 points (six goals, 15 assists) in 62 games for the Dallas Stars last season and eight points (one goal, seven assists) in 26 postseason games to help them advance to the Stanley Cup Final, a six-game loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
"I feel like [the Blackhawks are] a great team," Janmark said. "Before I got in the League, I watched them. It was when they went on their [championship] runs and I was kind of cheering for them back then and always wanted to play here. I actually was pretty close to getting drafted there, I think, so I know a little bit about the organization and everything you hear about it is top-notch and the city is great and I love playing there. So there's a lot of things. But as far as the team goes, I love the style they're playing now. They've got awesome players there. They have veteran players there like [Patrick] Kane and [Jonathan] Toews and [Duncan] Keith and [Brent] Seabrook, and they have a lot of young players too that are really skilled, and that's kind of what I was looking for to get my game going too."
Janmark, who is known for his strong play defensively and on the penalty kill, scored an NHL career-high 19 goals in 2017-18. He said that he's hoping for an opportunity to produce more with the Blackhawks this season after scoring six goals in each of the past two seasons with the Stars.
"I talked a little bit with (coach) Jeremy [Colliton] and (general manager) Stan [Bowman] yesterday, and they weren't promising anything and that's kind of what I liked, but they see me as a good two-way player and kind of filling something that they felt like they were lacking last year," Janmark said. "As far as my role goes, I just hope to come in there and play good and kind of earn it. I hope to play a lot and play offensive minutes, but they said they needed some help on the PK and that's what I've been doing in Dallas, so I'll do that for sure. But I hope to get my offensive game going and hopefully I'll get to play up in the lineup. But I don't think they promised me anything."
Selected by the Detroit Red Wings in the third round (No. 79) of the 2013 NHL Draft, Janmark has scored 109 points (46 goals, 63 assists) in 297 regular-season games and 16 points (four goals, 12 assists) in 45 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
