Connor McDavid has three points in Oilers win

CALGARY -- Connor McDavid had a goal and two assists, and Leon Draisaitl scored twice in the third period to help the Edmonton Oilers to a 5-3 win against the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome on Friday.
The Oilers swept the season-opening home-and-home against the Flames. They won 7-4 in the first game at Rogers Place, their new arena, on Wednesday.

"It's very big for our confidence," Draisaitl said. "I think the last couple of years we didn't really get off to a good start. We never really caught up to that. It's nice to start off that way and get a little bit of confidence going. It's big for us."
Jordan Eberle and Mark Letestu also scored for the Oilers, and Cam Talbot made 32 saves.
Sean Monahan, Michael Frolik, and Jyrki Jokipakka scored for the Flames, and Brian Elliott made 24 saves on 28 shots.
"With [coach Glen Gulutzan], he wants to open up our systems a little bit from last year, but that doesn't mean we're going to play run-and-gun, that doesn't mean we're just going to play wide open," Flames forward Troy Brouwer said. "We still have to have a lot of our structure and we're getting away from that right now."
Draisaitl scored his first goal on the power play at 1:28, putting Edmonton up 3-2 when he tapped in a cross-crease pass from Milan Lucic on a passing play started by McDavid.

Letestu extended the lead to two with a shorthanded breakaway goal at 6:47.
Jokipakka got Calgary to within 4-3 at 12:16 with a shot over Talbot's glove, but Draisaitl scored his second goal into an empty net with 1:20 remaining.
Monahan scored 1:22 into the game, but McDavid tied it 1-1 with a breakaway goal at 7:45.
McDavid has three goals and six points in two games to start the season.
"That's why he got the 'C,'" Talbot said. "Everyone said, 'Is he too young? Is he ready to be a leader yet?' I think what he's displayed over the course of the first few games here … he's obviously the right choice."
Frolik beat Talbot through a screen to restore Calgary's lead at 11:35. The goal came after Talbot stopped Alex Chiasson on a breakaway at 8:40, one of his 22 first-period saves.
Eberle tied it 2-2 on the power play at 5:25 of the second period. Elliott made back-to-back saves on Draisaitl from the top of the crease, but Eberle pushed a third attempt over the goal line.

Goal of the game

Draisaitl tapped his first goal by Elliott off a cross-crease pass from Lucic. "It felt pretty good," Draisaitl said. "I think that obviously our power play was huge tonight. Great pass by [Lucic]. One of the easier goals I'm going to score, I think, in my career. It's big for us."

Save of the game

Elliott made a pad save on Letestu on a breakaway 2:25 into the game. Letestu had a clear-cut breakaway from the Oilers blue line after Flames defenseman Dennis Wideman turned over the puck.

Unsung moment of the game

Eberle got the puck up to McDavid on his breakaway goal in the first period immediately after Kris Russell blocked a slap shot from the point by Flames defenseman Mark Giordano. Russell had an NHL single-season record 283 blocked shots in 2014-15 while playing for Calgary.

Highlight of the game

McDavid beat Elliott with a forehand-backhand deke after being sent on a clear-cut breakaway from center ice by Jordan Eberle. "We'll be talking about him all year and for many years to come," Oilers coach Todd McLellan said. "You can have a game plan, but first of all he's got all the skills and tools. He's got a toolbox that is second to none -- his mind and the way he sees the rink and the players on the ice surface."

Jokipakka made his season debut. He replaced Nicklas Grossmann in the lineup. … Oilers defenseman Eric Gryba, who signed a one-year, two-way contract Wednesday, made his season debut in place of Brandon Davidson, who sustained an upper-body injury Wednesday.
