Emrick joins TheRink

Mike "Doc" Emrick is looking forward to sitting down on his couch at home in Michigan with his wife Joyce on Sunday to watch the documentary about the legendary broadcaster who retired after last season.

Emrick said on the "NHL @TheRink podcast" Thursday that he has not yet seen "Doc Emrick -- The Voice of Hockey, Presented by Discover," which will air on NBC at 5 p.m. ET following the regular-season game between the New Jersey Devils and Washington Capitals (2 p.m. ET, NBC).
"I've gotten an idea from a couple of the promos that have run that they talked to Sidney Crosby, T.J. Oshie, Eddie Olczyk, Wayne Gretzky and Bill Clement," Emrick told co-hosts Dan Rosen and Shawn P. Roarke. "So I'm aware of five people that are going to be probably on it, but beyond that I don't know and I haven't asked because I consider it the ultimate holiday gift and you don't ask what you're being given.
"It's very kind of them to do. It was a gift given to me by the people at NBC, in particular (executive producer and president of production) Sam Flood. He called in December and said, 'We'd like to do a one hour show on you.' I said, 'I'll cooperate any way possible, but I'd rather be surprised by whatever it is you decide to do.'"
Emrick spoke about a myriad of topics for nearly 30 minutes, sharing his thoughts on the season to date, why he loves the divisional setup and the rivalries being renewed and created, how he's taking it all in as a fan instead of a broadcaster, his favorite outdoor game of the 19 he called, anticipation for the games at Lake Tahoe this weekend and much more.
Bruins forward Chris Wagner also joined the podcast to talk about his season, Boston's success so far and why he's excited to play outdoors at Lake Tahoe on Sunday.
"In warmups I'll do a lot of looking around and even before the game I like to go out and take a peek," Wagner said. "You try to soak it in as much before the game more than anything rather than during the game getting distracted at the beautiful mountains and everything around it."
The podcast is free, and listeners can subscribe on all podcast platforms. It is also available on
