Green out 3-5 weeks for Red Wings with lower-body injury

Mike Green will be out 3-5 weeks for the Detroit Red Wings because of a lower-body injury.

The 33-year-old defenseman led the Red Wings in average ice time at 21:56 per game but was limited to a season-low 15:46 in a 6-2 loss at the Washington Capitals on Tuesday. He did not play in a 4-2 loss to the Ottawa Senators on Friday.
"I'm going to use the timetable of 3-5 weeks," Detroit coach Jeff Blashill said. "Those are always flexible, but right now we're looking at 3-5 weeks with Mike. He's been playing excellent, so this is unfortunate for him and for the team. How much it hurts depends on how the other guys play, but he was really grooving."
Green plays on the first defense pair with Niklas Kronwall.

Green, who missed nine games earlier this season with a virus, has 16 points (three goals, 13 assists) in 23 games. The No. 29 pick in the 2004 NHL Draft, Green has 480 points (145 goals, 335 assists) in 810 games during 14 seasons with the Washington Capitals and Red Wings.
The Red Wings also are without defenseman Danny DeKeyser, who is out for another month with a broken hand.

Filip Hronek
from Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League. The 21-year-old played 11:51 on Friday and has three points (one goal, two assists) in seven games with the Red Wings this season.
