Modano makes history with double eagle at celebrity golf tournament

It doesn't matter what kind of lumber or what kind of playing surface, Mike Modano can put the biscuit in the basket.

The Hockey Hall of Fame forward pulled off the rare double eagle on the 18th hole of the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship at Edgewood Tahoe South Golf Course in Stateline, Nevada, on Friday.

Modano, the former Dallas Stars legend who led them to the Stanley Cup in 1999, holed out from a ridiculous 205 yards.
The tournament announced that Modano's score was the first-ever double eagle, or albatross (when a golfer plays a par-5 hole in two strokes), in the history of the event. The tournament is not stroke play, but rather points-based, and Modano's historic hole netted him 10 points.
Modano was tied for the lead with Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher John Smoltz after the first round. He finished in eighth place (57 points) just ahead of two-time NBA MVP Stephen Curry.
Smoltz and former NBA player and coach Vinny Del Negro finished tied atop the leaderboard with 69 points.
Dallas Stars forward Joe Pavelski finished two spots ahead of Modano with 60 points.
Washington Capitals forward T.J. Oshie finished tied for 39th place with 20 points.
