MIN@ARI: Kaprizov nets nifty wraparound goal

GLENDALE, Ariz. --Cam Talbot made 39 saves for the Minnesota Wild in their fifth straight win, 4-1 against the Arizona Coyotes at Gila River Arena on Wednesday.

Marcus Foligno scored the tiebreaking goal in the third period for Minnesota (29-13-3), which defeated Arizona 5-2 here Monday in the first of the two-game set.
The Wild won seven of eight games against the Coyotes this season, outscoring them 32-12.
"When you can win as many games as you can against one certain team, it's huge," Foligno said. "We just played simple (against Arizona), we played hard hockey, a lot of physicality and a lot of depth. It's been a lot of fun playing these guys."
Christian Dvorak scored, and Darcy Kuemper made 19 saves for Arizona (20-22-5), which has lost seven of eight.
"We deserved a better fate, but it's a game of results," Coyotes coach Rick Tocchet said. "It's frustrating, I thought we played well, but they scored their goals when they had their chances."
The Wild are in third place in the Honda West Division, three points behind the second-place Colorado Avalanche. The Coyotes are in fourth, one point ahead of the St. Louis Blues, who have four games in hand. The top four teams will qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
"It's the best time of the year, this is where you have to start building for the playoffs and ramping up your game and making sure that you're tightening up the little areas that you can tighten up before the playoffs," Talbot said.
After a breakout pass from Joel Eriksson Ek, Foligno drove to the net on the left side from the blue line, held off defenseman Alex Goligoski, and scored inside the near post to make it 2-1 at 4:32.
"Our (line's) breakouts have been kind of sloppy, not a lot of possession coming out, so we actually talked about … how I have to kind of slash through and kind of push the D back," Foligno said. "'Ekker' made a great backhand pass that kind of caught their guy off guard -- I think they had a forward back there -- and so I just put the burners on, skated as hard as I could, and then shot it as hard as I could, and luckily it went in."

Kirill Kaprizov made it 3-1 at 18:20 when he scored on a wraparound for his 19th goal, passing Marian Gaborik (2000-01) for most by a rookie in a season in Wild history. It was his third straight game with a goal.
"It's undeniable that he's taken this team and moved it to the next level with his play," Minnesota forward Nico Sturm said. "He fights off guys on the boards, he's so strong. That's just really impressive what he's done this year."
Sturm scored an empty-net goal with 12 seconds left for the 4-1 final.
"They're a desperate team, we knew they were going to come with a push, and they did just that from the drop of the puck," Talbot said. "We weathered the storm. Give our guys a lot of credit. We bent tonight, but we didn't break, and [Foligno] gets a big goal there in the third, and then Kirill kind of finishes it off with a couple of minutes left there, so a good team effort."
Dvorak scored on the power play to give the Coyotes a 1-0 lead at 7:38 of the first period when he banked a shot off the back of Talbot's left pad. Arizona led 12-1 in shots at the time.
It was Dvorak's first goal in 12 games.
"I thought we played well, but you've got to put the puck in the net," Arizona defenseman Niklas Hjalmarsson said.
Kevin Fiala scored with a backhand just to the right of the crease off Sturm's pass from the bottom of the left face-off circle at 2:58 of the second period to tie the game 1-1. Fiala had a goal and an assist Monday.

Talbot is 5-0-1 in his past six starts and 12-2-2 in his past 16.
"The confidence we have in Cam, it's huge for our team," Foligno said. "We looked like we didn't have our legs, but when you have a goaltender that can do that for you … we can be dangerous in the third period and steal some points."
Arizona played without forward Conor Garland, who sustained a lower-body injury in practice Tuesday and is out indefinitely.
