Wild score four in second, shut out Bruins

BOSTON -- Devan Dubnyk made 27 saves and Charlie Coyle, Chris Stewart, Ryan Suter and Jason Zucker scored in the second period in the Minnesota Wild's 5-0 win against the Boston Bruins at TD Garden on Tuesday.
The Wild (4-2-1) are 1-1-1 with one game remaining on their four-game road trip. Three players - Zucker (one goal, two assists), Suter (one goal, one assist) and Joel Eriksson Ek (three assists) - had multipoint games. Jason Pominville scored in the third period.
It was Dubnyk's 20th career shutout.

"I think once we scored that first goal, it rattled their goalie pretty well because we scored right again," Wild coach Bruce Boudreau said. "And then once we scored the second goal it gave us confidence to keep going, so it was a good period. ... I thought in the third period we did just enough to get it deep."
With goalies Tuukka Rask (undisclosed) and Anton Khudobin (upper body) unavailable because of injury, Malcolm Subban made his season debut for the Bruins (3-3-0) and first NHL start since Feb. 20, 2015. He was pulled at 10:36 of the second period after allowing three goals on 16 shots. Zane McIntyre made his NHL debut in relief and made 15 saves.
The Bruins, who have lost their past two games, were without forward David Backes because of an undisclosed injury. Coach Claude Julien blamed the Bruins' play without the puck for the losses.
"If we're going to cheat offensively and not do our job defensively, it ends up in the back of our net and we just lose momentum, we lose confidence, we lose everything that comes with it," Julien said. "We've just got to get better in that area and no matter who we have in our lineup, if they're here it's because their capable of doing the job."
Coyle opened the scoring at 5:07 of the second period when he beat Subban from the slot. It was the Weymouth, Mass., native's first goal against the Bruins.

"It feels good. It's a long time coming," Coyle said. "Cousins are always [asking] me, 'Hey, you gonna score this time?' So it's nice to get one."
Stewart scored 12 seconds later with a one-timer from the right circle. Suter ended Subban's night with a power-play goal from the top of the right circle off a feed from Matt Dumba at 10:36 to make it 3-0. Zucker scored when he cut across the slot and tipped Suter's shot past McIntyre at 16:39.
Pominville scored at 15:12 of the third period.

Zucker's strong hand-eye coordination was on full display when he tipped Suter's shot out of the air and past McIntyre to make it 4-0.

Dubnyk kept the score 0-0 with a save on Patrice Bergeron's shot after a backhand pass from David Pastrnak at 14:44.

Highlight of the game

Pominville's goal on a rebound at 15:12 of the third period was his 250th NHL goal.

Unsung moment of the game

Eriksson Ek's first of three assists was his best. He warded off two defenders behind the Bruins net and then set up Stewart's one-timer that made it 2-0.

The Bruins played the second half of the second period without center David Krejci, who sustained a cut to his face from Wild defenseman Christian Folin's skate after the two players and Minnesota forward Nino Niederreiter collided behind the Boston net at 10:31 of the second. Krejci returned in the third period. … Wild defenseman Jared Spurgeon (upper body) skated Tuesday but didn't play. He could return to the lineup Thursday. Erik Haula (lower body), who did not skate, could also be in the lineup Thursday. ... McIntyre was recalled on an emergency basis from Providence of the American Hockey League to back up Subban. ... Defenseman Rob O'Gara was assigned to Providence before the game. ... Julien had no update on the status of goaltender Tuukka Rask (undisclosed) or Backes (undisclosed) after the game.
