Zuccarello nets shootout winner in a 6-5 victory

Matt Boldy scored twice for the Minnesota Wild in a 6-5 shootout win against the Detroit Red Wings at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit on Thursday.

Mats Zuccarello and Kevin Fiala scored in the shootout for Minnesota, after Jordan Oesterle made it 5-5 at 17:09 of the third period for Detroit.
Joel Eriksson Ek, Zuccarello and Kirill Kaprizov scored for the Wild (34-19-3), who won their second straight after losing six of seven. Cam Talbot made 29 saves.
"I think we showed today that we're getting back to playing the way we need to play," Fiala said. "Obviously, we gave up too many goals, so we have some areas where we need to get better, but I think we're going to be better going forward."
Lucas Raymond and Jakub Vrana each scored twice for the Red Wings (24-27-7), who have lost four straight and six of seven. Alex Nedeljkovic made 35 saves.

MIN@DET: Zuccarello nets the shootout winner for Wild

Minnesota trailed 4-2 in the second period and had a game-tying goal disallowed for goaltender interference.
"This team battles through adversity better than any team I've ever been with," Talbot said. "We knew we still had a chance only being down one going into the third and we battled enough to get the win."
Boldy gave the Wild a 1-0 lead at 1:27 of the first period, slapping Fiala's pass over Nedeljkovic's glove.
Vrana made it 1-1 at 6:14 with his second goal of the season in his second game after returning from shoulder surgery.
"We know he can really score," Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said. "There are areas of his game where he needs to get better, and I thought he looked better tonight, but we know how good he is at putting the puck in the net."
Minnesota took a 2-1 lead at 12:07 when Nedeljkovic tried to play Eriksson Ek's dump-in and swatted it between his own legs into the net.
"We made a lot of mistakes tonight, but it is obviously more visible when a goalie makes a mistake," Blashill said. "There were plenty of times when [Nedeljkovic] bailed other guys out from their mistakes, and everyone on this team knows that."

Raymond tied it 2-2 at 14:09, taking a pass from Nick Leddy and scoring into the empty side of the net. Vrana made it 3-2 with a power-play goal at 18:31, lunging for a one-timer off Filip Hronek's pass.
"In the past few games, we've really sunk when the other team has scored first, and it was a point of emphasis tonight to stay with our game when things got tough," Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin said. "Tonight, they scored first and we responded with a really good period and ended up with the lead."
Raymond put Detroit up 4-2 at 5:52 of the second period when he knocked in Leddy's pass from the top of the crease.
Zuccarello made it 4-3 with a power-play goal at 9:31, and Jordan Greenway had a tying goal disallowed after a Red Wings challenge. The officials ruled Eriksson Ek pushed Pius Suter into Nedeljkovic.
Greenway has gone 21 games without a goal since scoring twice in a 5-2 win against the San Jose Sharks on Dec. 9.
"[Eriksson Ek] owes me one," Greenway said.
Boldy tied it 4-4 at 3:04 of the third period, and Kaprizov gave Minnesota a 5-4 lead at 13:13.
