"He's doing very well," Wild general manager Bill Guerin said Thursday. "Things are looking really good. He seems to be incredibly healthy. Very positive."
Guerin said the forward prospect has been working out off the ice and the expectation is the 19-year-old will be healthy enough to attend training camp in September.
Rossi was diagnosed with COVID-19 in November and was cleared to play for Austria at the 2021 IIHF World Junior Championship in Edmonton.
After the tournament, Rossi traveled to Minnesota to prepare for Wild training camp, but on Jan. 10 the Wild announced he would be out indefinitely because of an upper-body injury. Rossi returned to Austria on Jan. 30 to be with his family while he rested and continued to recover from the virus.
"It was a big shock, a young, healthy, workout-crazy type of kid that he is," Guerin said. "It was a big shock. Then you find out even more, it's scary. You're nervous for the kid and for his family. But we have such fantastic medical staff here that they went through everything 10 times with a fine-tooth comb and they make you feel better about it. We're going crazy and they come in with the calm demeanor. Our medical staff has been fantastic through the whole process."
Rossi led the Ontario Hockey League in 2019-20 with 120 points (39 goals, 81 assists) in 56 games.
