Caufield scores 15th of season in Canadiens' SO win

TAMPA -- The Montreal Canadiens rallied twice to win, 5-4 in a shootout against the Tampa Bay Lightning at Amalie Arena on Saturday.

Nick Suzuki scored the only goal in the shootout.
Cole Caufield and Josh Anderson scored for the Canadiens (19-39-11), who won for the first time in a four-game road trip (1-2-1). Jake Allen made 37 saves.
"We talk about being process driven and not so much result driven," Canadiens coach Martin St. Louis said. "I think the result will just come along if you just focus on the process and I think we did a good job of that tonight."

MTL@TBL: Suzuki goes backhand to give Canadiens win

Nikita Kucherov had a goal and two assists for the Lightning (43-18-7), who are 4-0-1 in their past five games. Brian Elliott made 27 saves.
"A lot of really bad mental mistakes," Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper said. "It's too bad. We've got to fight through that. It's a tough League and anybody can beat anybody. You can't make those mental mistakes we made tonight, all throughout the lineup."
The Lightning dropped into a tie for second in the Atlantic Division with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Tampa Bay will host the Maple Leafs on Monday (7 p.m. ET; NHLN, SN, TVAS, BSSUN, ESPN+, NHL LIVE) for their fourth game in six days.
"Games come at you fast," Cooper said." Everyone gets put through these situations."

MTL@TBL: Cirelli scores SHG for his 15th of season

Steven Stamkos gave the Lightning a 1-0 lead at 8:57 of the first period with a chip in from close range.
Anthony Cirelli extended the lead to 2-0 at 13:32 with a shorthanded goal off a pass from Nicholas Paul.
"Too many turnovers, too many odd-mans given up," Cirelli said. "One of the things we talk about is limiting the other team's rush chances and we gave up too many tonight."
Caufield made it 2-1 at 8:57 when he finished a 2-on-0 rush.
"I think we talk about not getting too caught up in the result, whether it's a loss or a period when you're down," St. Louis said. "If you self-assess really well it's a lot easier to grow individually and as a team. I thought we did that because it was a really good first period and it would've been easy to get caught up with the score."

MTL@TBL: Anderson scores on breakaway for tie

Kucherov pushed the Tampa Bay lead to 3-1 at 11:34 with a power-play goal, a one-timer from the right circle off a pass from Victor Hedman.
Corey Schueneman made it 3-2 at 13:56 with a shot from the point that went under Elliott's glove. Anderson tied it 3-3 at 15:50 with a breakaway goal off a turnover by Stamkos.
"I thought all 20 guys played a good game," Montreal defenseman Joel Edmundson said. "We were supporting each other all over the ice, especially the young guys. That's not an easy team to face."
Brayden Point put the Lightning ahead 4-3 at 19:44 with a power-play goal.
"Just missed assignments, I don't know if it's fatigue or what," Point said. "Just sloppy tonight."

MTL@TBL: Caufield scores on 2-on-0 rush for his 15th

Jesse Ylonen made it 4-4 at 2:18 of the third period with a goal off a cross-ice pass from Ryan Poehling.
"They're a fast team and I think they were beating us up ice tonight," Point said. "They were creating too many odd mans that way. If we're being honest we're lucky to get one tonight."
