Paul broke a 3-3 tie in a game against the Florida Panthers with a slick between-the-legs goal in the second period.
The goal came off a perfect pass from forward Brandon Hagel, who chased the puck down behind the net and shoveled it back to a trailing Paul.
After getting the pass on his backhand, Paul went through his own skates and popped the puck over the right shoulder of Panthers goalie Spencer Knight.
The best part of the goal? It came short-handed.
More incredible goals from the 2021-22 NHL season:
- St. Louis Blues forward Justin Faulk batted one
out of the air
for a beautiful goal against the New York Islanders.
- Pedators forward Matt Duchene must have been inspired by his teammate, because he took a feed from Filip Forsberg on the right side of the net and found the twine with a
nearly identical between-the-legs goal
.
- Here is
that Forsberg goal
, which also happened to tie the franchise career record for goals.
- If you haven't yet seen this move that Florida Panthers forward Aleksander Barkov put on the Carolina Hurricanes, going
behind his own back to dust a defender
and score, you should stop what you are doing and watch it now.
- Edmonton Oilers forward Jesse Puljujarvi put one in the net right off the face-off as
he was falling to the ice
. With no time to gather it up and shoot, Puljujarvi spun to his left, laid out, fully extended and swung his stick like a baseball bat, smacking the puck through the five-hole of Islanders goalie Ilya Sorokin.
- Carolina Hurricanes forward Sebastian Aho does't just go between his own legs,
he redirects a pass
from teammate Teuvo Teravainen between his own legs.
- Calgary Flames forward Matthew Tkachuk does a
very Matthew Tkachuk thing
and puts one between his own legs and past Vegas Golden Knights goalie Robin Lehner in the blink of an eye.
- Vancouver Canucks forward J.T. Miller went on a
rink-long skate
through half a hockey team to edge the puck past the goal line.
- Jan. 27 brought three back-to-back goal of the year candidates. Anaheim Ducks forward Trevor Zegras ignited social media with his "Michigan" goal. It was just the fourth time a lacrosse style goal has been pulled off in an NHL game. But, in the very same game, just seconds before Zegras scored, Montreal Canadiens forward Jake Evans scored on a
diving shot
that is worth all of the replays. And because Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid can never be left out of any conversation about incredible goals, he scored a
shootout winner
were he deked roughly 140 times in just two real-world seconds for a shootout score.
- Pittsburgh Penguins forward Brian Boyle scored one for the old guys, as the 37-year-old, currently in his 16th NHL season, scored a
stylish between-the-legs
goal.
- Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar had it
all going on his overtime winner
against the Chicago Blackhawks: stopping on a dime, turning 180 degrees, incredible puckhandling and a backhand finish.
- Alright, we should warn you now, we could make an entire list of just McDavid's goals. Here he is
beating four New York Rangers
. Enjoy (until the next one).
- This is just
superior hand-eye coordination
from Predators forward Tanner Jeannot.
