Filip Forsberg scored 12 seconds into the second to tie it 2-2 on Matt Duchene's centering pass from behind the net.
The Canadiens
honored retired defenseman
P.K. Subban in a pregame ceremony. Subban won the Norris Trophy as the NHL's best defenseman with Montreal in 2012-13.
"He's a legend here, and he's done a lot of great things in the community and for the team," Caufield said. "So, to have a guy like that come back and get a standing ovation like that, it's pretty special to be here and a cool moment for him."
Subban also played for the Predators from 2016-2019. Nashville defenseman Mattias Ekholm was Subban's teammate in the 2017 Stanley Cup Final, which the Predators lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins in six games.
"I'm happy to see him get the recognition he deserves," Ekholm said. "So it was a really cool ceremony and it was really cool to be a part of it."
