The Nashville Predators all-star defenseman, who kicked up a minor but playful stir during the 2017 Stanley Cup Final when he said Pittsburgh Penguins captain
Sidney Crosby told him his "breath smelled"
during a heated exchange after Game 3, admitted that it was all made up.
Subban sat for an interview with Rogers SportsNet ahead of his Predators returning to Bell Centre to take on his former team, the Montreal Canadiens. In a lighter moment, he admitted what we all kind of already knew: Crosby never said anything about Subban's breath stinking.
"He never said it. But you know it was pretty funny the whole thing and how it got kind of blown up during the playoffs," Subban said laughing about the gag.
Subban has been known throughout his career as a prankster and fun-loving personality. So when NBC sideline reporter Pierre McGuire asked Subban what he and Crosby were speaking about after the Predators Game 3 win at Bridgestone Arena, Subban couldn't help himself when he saw the opportunity to make a joke.
"He told me my breath smelled. But, I mean, I don't know, I used some Listerine before the game so I don't know what he's talking about," Subban said at the time.
Subban also made sure he was seen
carrying a bottle of Listerine in his bag
on his way into Game 4 of the series.
Crosby retorted that his series rival "made that up," which, as pretty much everyone had guessed, Subban did.
But everything is cool between the two superstars now, says Subban.
"I saw (Crosby) and his parents at the All-Star Game and they still said 'hi' to me so I guess they don't hate me too much," Subban said.
