Marchessault, Theodore lift Golden Knights to SO win

LAS VEGAS --Adin Hill made an NHL career-high 47 saves, including nine in overtime, in the Vegas Golden Knights' 4-3 shootout win against the New Jersey Devils at T-Mobile Arena on Friday.

After Vegas was outshot 9-0 in overtime, Hill did not allow a goal in a four-round shootout. Shea Theodore scored the only goal.
"I felt like I had a good game," Hill said. "I felt good out there. I felt I was making good reads and seeing the puck well. Adrenaline's going, you're just in the moment trying to do everything you can to keep the puck out of the net."

Jonathan Marchessault scored twice and had an assist, and Jack Eichel had a goal and an assist for the Golden Knights (37-19-6), who are 8-1-2 in their past 11 games and moved two points ahead of the Los Angeles Kings for first place in the Pacific Division. Ivan Barbashev had two assists.
"'Marchy' finished well, Jack's had a lot of juice lately, Barbashev makes a lot of small-area plays," Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy said. "The games are tighter. … Points are just valuable, and players recognize that this time of the year."
Dawson Mercer extended his goal streak to eight games for the Devils (40-15-6), who are 3-0-1 in their past four games and moved seven points ahead of the New York Rangers for second place in the Metropolitan Division. Akira Schmid made 24 saves.
"Their goaltender had a tremendous game," New Jersey coach Lindy Ruff said. "We four or five really good chances off the bat. Our energy was good, and I thought we skated well. Their goalie made a couple of big saves."
Marchessault gave the Golden Knights a 1-0 lead at 7:48 of the first period, swiping in a rebound while falling to his right after Brayden McNabb's shot went off the end boards.
"I just saw the puck was at a good angle and I tried to get out there as quick I could," Marchessault said. "I know the goalie goes normally where the puck went from. The short side would be open. I just got lucky, I guess."

Jesper Bratt tied it 1-1 on a power play at 15:16 when he one-timed a feed from Jack Hughes from just above the right face-off dot.
Mercer gave New Jersey a 2-1 lead with 28 seconds left in the first when he fired a wrist shot from the right circle past Hill. It was his 10th goal during the streak.
The 21-year-old forward tied Paul Gardner for the longest goal streak in Devils/Colorado Rockies/Kansas City Scouts history. Gardner scored in eight straight for Colorado in 1977 (Oct. 19-Nov. 5).
"The [defenseman] fumbled it there, and (McNabb) kind of stepped back and tried to get it. I just saw an opportunity," Mercer said. "There was a thought to try and take it to the net, but it's never a bad idea to shoot the puck. I was happy to see it go in."

NJD@VGK: Mercer scores in his 8th consecutive game

Marchessault tied it 2-2 with his second of the game at 12:50 of the second period with a wrist shot from above the hash marks.
Eichel gave Vegas a 3-2 lead at 3:47 of the third period, scoring from the left circle after taking a pass from Marchessault on the rush.
"Coming out of the break, he's looked better and refreshed," Cassidy said. "He's separating better. When you lose other players who give you some of that, someone has to give you a little bit more."

NJD@VGK: Eichel gives Golden Knights the lead in 3rd

Miles Wood tied it 3-3 at 12:53, jamming the puck past Hill after a feed from behind the net by Jesper Boqvist.
Wood has six points (three goals, three assists) in his past six games.
"It's taken a while to get his game to where it's at," Ruff said. "Right now, we're seeing the best of Miles. He's getting to the net front, and he's in on two or three scoring chances."

Cassidy said he expects to have a further update Saturday. … Eichel has six goals in the past six games. … With three points, Marchessault reached 400 in his NHL career. … New Jersey acquired Curtis Lazar
