NYI@PHI: Beauvillier backhands wraparound OT winner

PHILADELPHIA --Anthony Beauvillier scored at 3:41 of overtime to give the New York Islanders a 2-1 win against the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center on Monday.

Beauvillier won it on a wraparound for his fourth goal of the season.
"It's one of those instinct plays," Beauvillier said. "It just happens and then you kind of hope for the best. It's a play where you kind of go behind the net and you see the goalie isn't really there and you kind of go for it.
"I was fortunate; it kind of hit a skate and went in the net tonight. It's one of those plays where you just kind of do it and sometimes you get lucky with it."
Ilya Sorokin made an NHL career-high 36 saves for the Islanders (21-8-4) and extended his winning streak to eight games.
Oskar Lindblom scored for the Flyers (15-11-4), who lost the last two of three consecutive games against the Islanders. Brian Elliott made 17 saves.
"We played a pretty good game," Philadelphia center Sean Couturier said. "We outshot them, had our chances, but we couldn't capitalize and they get two bounces their way and they cashed in."
The Islanders were outshot 26-10 through the second period but credited Sorokin with keeping it a one-goal game.
Sorokin is the first Russia-born rookie goalie to win eight consecutive NHL games; Igor Shesterkin (New York Rangers) and Ilya Samsonov (Washington Capitals) each won seven in a row last season.
"[The Flyers] were on top of us a little bit, [but] we survived it," New York coach Barry Trotz said. " ... They were a committed group tonight, and when you run into that, you need someone to rise, and tonight Ilya did that for us. He made some real key saves at key moments, and we were able to grind our way back into an even game, and fortunately we finally beat them in overtime."

Lindblom gave Philadelphia a 1-0 lead with his third goal in three games at 12:03 of the second period when he redirected a pass from Claude Giroux.
But that was the only shot to get past Sorokin, who has a 1.35 goals-against average and a .944 save percentage during his winning streak.
"Day in and day out, practice day and game day, he's always trying to do his best," Islanders center Jean-Gabriel Pageau said. "He's super-competitive, even in practice. He lets one goal in and he's not happy. He's trying to save all of them. I think that's why he's so good. He's fighting for us. He's playing for the logo on the front and we're happy to have him here."
Oliver Wahlstrom tied it 1-1 at 4:06 of the third period. The forward was standing at the side of the net and lifted a loose puck over Elliott.

The goal was Wahlstrom's eighth of the season, tied with center Pius Suter of the Chicago Blackhawks for second among NHL rookies, behind Minnesota Wild forward Kirill Kaprizov (10). It also extended Wahlstrom's point streak to four games (three goals, two assists).
"Goal scorers, their eyes light up," Trotz said. "They know where the money's at. The pot of gold is around the crease when there's a lot of chaos. Those guys seem to be able to get their radar on it and then they use those good hands to score goals."
The Flyers had 11 shots on goal in the third period, including two on a power play when Islanders defenseman Nick Leddy was called for hooking at 18:11.
"In my estimation, we should have scored more than one," Philadelphia coach Alain Vigneault said. "We had some outnumbered situations there where we didn't quite execute. We had some real good looks, and at the end of the night their goaltender was the difference tonight."
NOTES: It was the Islanders' first overtime win this season (1-3). … Sorokin is the second rookie goalie with a winning streak of at least eight games this season; Kaapo Kahkonen of the Wild won nine straight from Feb. 18-March 16.
