Noah Dobson put New York ahead 1-0 just 19 seconds into the first period when his wrist shot deflected off Sharks defenseman Kyle Burroughs’ skate past Chrona.
"Goes off a skate. When it rains it pours," Sharks coach David Quinn said. "That being said, I didn't mind our first period. I know we went down 2-0, but I didn't mind our first period."
Alexander Romanov made it 2-0 at 18:31 with a slap shot from the left point through traffic.
Bordeleau cut it to 2-1 at 2:45 of the second period when William Eklund's shot from the right circle deflected in off his skate on the power play. The forward, who was recalled from San Jose of the American Hockey League on Wednesday, was playing in his first NHL game since Oct. 26.
"It hit my skate and went in. Just right spot, right time," Bordeleau said. "It felt good to get the first one in a while out of the way."
Horvat made it 3-1 at 11:24. He picked up the puck along the goal line, skated to the slot and beat Chrona with a wrist shot.
"When they got that power-play goal, instead of sitting back and letting them take it to us, we had a really good push there in the second half of the second," Horvat said.
Hoffman quickly cut it to 3-2 at 11:49, putting in a centering pass from Givani Smith in front on the rush.
Kyle MacLean responded 15 seconds later with a wrist shot below the left circle to push it to 4-2.
Mathew Barzal made it 5-2 at 14:21. He gloved down a clearing attempt at the blue line and scored with a snap shot from the right circle off a give-and-go with Nelson.
