NYR@SEA: Shesterkin shuts the door on multiple shots

SEATTLE -- Igor Shesterkin made 31 saves for the New York Rangers in their fifth straight road win, 3-1 against the Seattle Kraken at Climate Pledge Arena on Sunday.

Adam Fox scored the go-ahead goal in the third period for New York (6-2-1), which has not lost on the road since being defeated 5-1 by the Washington Capitals on Oct. 13 in its season opener.
Shesterkin has allowed one or fewer goals in five of his past six starts, including a 31-save shutout in a 4-0 win against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Friday.
"We can sing his praises for four days," Fox said. "But I mean, he keeps us in every game and you never feel like you're out, ever. It's a tie game, and he keeps it that way. And obviously, we got one, so I can't say enough good things."
Jordan Eberle scored for Seattle (3-5-1), which went 2-2-0 on its first homestand. Philipp Grubauer made 15 saves in his fourth straight start.
"You're gonna win some games you should lose, you're gonna lose some games you should win, and I think this one was one of them," Grubauer said. "… We didn't capitalize on our chances, but overall I think we did a pretty good job."

Chris Kreider gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead at 3:38 of the first period when he scored with a wrist shot off the rush. It was his seventh goal of the season, fourth in the past four games.
Eberle tied the game 1-1 with a backhand at 13:46 of the second period. Seattle outshot New York 13-2 in the second.
"I thought we had a great first 10 minutes," Rangers coach Gerard Gallant said. "That was a great road period in this building, and then the next 30 minutes was awful. And Igor stole the show."
Fox put New York ahead 2-1 with 7:50 remaining when he scored with a wrist shot from the high slot off a pass from Artemi Panarin. The play began with a Shesterkin save on Brandon Tanev. Fox sent a stretch pass to Panarin, who pulled up in the top of the left face-off circle before waiting to send a cross-ice pass to Fox.
"Big save by [Shesterkin] to start that, and then I saw [Panarin] there," Fox said. "And you always got to get open when he has the puck. He found me, and I just tried to get a shot through."
Barclay Goodrow scored into an empty net with 1:39 left for the 3-1 final.
The Kraken were 0-for-4 on the power play and went 0-for-14 on the homestand.
"Overall, our possession was good, our opportunities were pretty good," Seattle coach Dave Hakstol said. "We weren't able to finish one. Sometimes it's hard to stay positive when you're pushing to score as a power-play unit."

The Kraken outshot the Rangers 32-18.
"Our guys work their tails off," Hakstol said. "We didn't give up much coming at our net. We gave up a little bit on transition, this team is excellent in transition. They got us a couple of times. And on the other side, our group did a lot of good things with the puck. … Even if you look at the 6-on-5 opportunity, you know, that's one we'd like a better fate on, but we didn't get."
NOTES: Kraken forward Jared McCann and assistant coach Paul McFarland were placed in NHL COVID-19 protocol before the game. … Forward Max McCormick made his Seattle debut as McCann's replacement. He had three shots on goal and one blocked shot in 7:20. … The five road wins are the most through the first nine games of a season in Rangers history. … Kraken defenseman Mark Giordano had a four-game point streak end (two goals, two assists).
