Forward
T.J. Oshie
was placed in NHL COVID-19 protocol and is not playing for the Capitals against the Los Angeles Kings on Sunday.
The 34-year-old forward has scored 11 points (four goals, seven assists) in 14 games. He missed 16 games during two stints with lower-body injuries earlier this season.
Oshie joins forwards Evgeny Kuznetsov and
Nicklas Backstrom
in protocol. Kuznetsov entered Wednesday and Backstrom on Friday after making his season debut at the Chicago Blackhawks on Wednesday following his recovery from a left-hip injury.
"Obviously, it's not what you want," coach Peter Laviolette said. "You're [missing] Backstrom and Kuznetsov and Oshie and lots of guys on your power play and top six guys. But it is what it is. We've got to move forward here and we'll see what we have available. I'm not sure."
With Oshie out, the Capitals recalled Joe Snively from Hershey of the American Hockey League. The 25-year-old forward, who is from Herndon, Virginia and grew up playing in Washington's Little Caps program, could make his NHL debut. He scored 22 points (eight goals, 14 assists) in 21 games with Hershey this season.
Capitals forward Nic Dowd and defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk have exited protocol, and each will play against the Kings, Laviolette said. Forward Garnet Hathaway technically remains in protocol but participated in the morning skate. -- Tom Gulitti
