Calgary Flames

Rasmus Andersson returned for the Flames when they hosted the Detroit Red Wings at Scotiabank Saddledome on Thursday.
The defenseman missed three games because of an undisclosed injury sustained when he was hit by a vehicle while riding a scooter in Detroit on Feb. 8. The 26-year-old played 323 consecutive games before the injury.
Andersson practiced Wednesday and participated in an optional morning skate Thursday. He has 34 points (seven goals, 27 assists) in 51 games this season.
He entered Thursday leading the Flames and was 11th in the NHL with an average ice time of 24:41 per game.
"If we got him back that'd be huge," defenseman Noah Hanifin said. "He's one of our best players. He plays a lot of minutes for us, and he's had a great year." -- Aaron Vickers

Washington Capitals

Carl Hagelin had resurfacing surgery on his left hip Monday and will be out indefinitely.
It's the second time in the past four months the forward has had surgery on his left hip; the 34-year-old had an arthroscopic procedure done Oct. 10.
Hagelin began light skating in late December but was unable to progress to the point where he could practice with the Capitals.
He will try to follow the example of teammate Nicklas Backstrom, who became the second NHL player to return after having hip resurfacing surgery when he made his season debut against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Jan. 8. Backstrom had resurfacing surgery on his left hip June 17.
Hagelin, who has not played since being struck in the eye with a stick blade in practice March 1, 2022, is in the final season of a four-year, $11 million contract ($2.75 million average annual value) he signed with Washington on June 16, 2019. He can become an unrestricted free agent after the season. -- Tom Gulitti

The forward has been out since Jan. 11 because of an undisclosed injury.
Yamamoto has 12 points (four goals, eight assists) in 31 games this season.
"I'm hoping he stays healthy, finds a level of consistency to his game and brings what he can bring," Edmonton coach Jay Woodcroft said. "Because when he's at the top of his game he makes us a very dangerous team."

New York Islanders

Jean-Gabriel Pageau was placed on injured reserve Thursday, retroactive to Feb. 11.
The forward did not play in a 3-2 shootout loss to the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday because of an upper-body injury.
Pageau has 29 points (10 goals, 19 assists) in 56 games this season, and leads the Islanders with a 56.5 percent face-off winning percentage.
Forward Andy Andreoff was recalled from Bridgeport of the American Hockey League and could play his first game for New York this season against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday (7 p.m. ET; SN1, TVAS, MSGSN, ATTSN-PT, ESPN+, SN NOW).

Boston Bruins

Jake DeBrusk could return against the Islanders on Saturday.
The forward did not play against the Nashville Predators on Thursday, the 17th straight game DeBrusk has missed because of a leg injury sustained in the 2023 NHL Winter Classic on Jan. 2.
"He's really close," Boston coach Jim Montgomery said. "He had a good skate again [Wednesday], and just, where he's at, we think Saturday is going to be a really good opportunity. We felt if he played [Thursday], then he doesn't play Saturday."

The goalie has been out since Jan. 25 because of a lower-body injury.
"Cam skated today, it went really well today," Dorion said. "I think he's going to join practice either tomorrow or Saturday, and we'll see what happens."
Defenseman Jake Sanderson, who has missed the past two games because of an undisclosed injury, could play as soon as Feb. 24 against the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Senators (26-24-3) have won six of their past seven games (6-1-0).

Chicago Blackhawks

Jonathan Toews was placed on injured reserve retroactive to Feb. 7 because of a non-COVID-19-related illness and missed his fifth straight game when the Blackhawks lost 5-2 at the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday.
