Colorado Avalanche

Cale Makar did not play for the Avalanche in a 6-5 overtime win against the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday because of an upper-body injury.
The defenseman had returned and played 21:27 in a 4-1 win against the St. Louis Blues on Saturday after missing four games with a head injury sustained in a 2-1 overtime loss at the Pittsburgh Penguins on Feb. 7.
Makar is third on the Avalanche with 45 points (13 goals, 32 assists) in 46 games this season and leads the NHL average ice time (26:57).
Josh Manson returned to the lineup after the defenseman did not play against the Blues. Manson originally returned to the lineup Wednesday in a 3-2 win against the Minnesota Wild after missing 31 games with a lower-body injury.
"Just precautionary for this weekend," coach Jared Bednar said on Saturday. "We didn't want to play him in a back to back."

Edmonton Oilers

Evander Kane did not play for the Oilers against the Colorado Avalanche on Sunday after sustaining an upper-body injury against the New York Rangers on Friday. The forward is day to day.
Kane had three shots on goal in 17:51 of ice time in the 5-4 shootout loss to the Rangers. He did not play a shift in overtime.
Kane has 19 points (nine goals, 10 assists) in 24 games this season. He missed 31 games following a surgical procedure to repair his left wrist after it was cut by a skate blade at the Tampa Bay Lightning on Nov. 8.
Forward Klim Kostin missed his second consecutive game because of an illness.

Vancouver Canucks

Oliver Ekman-Larsson is out "some weeks," Canucks coach Rick Tocchet said, after the defenseman sprained his ankle against the New York Rangers on Feb. 15.
Ekman-Larsson was injured trying to make a hit on New York forward Vladimir Tarasenko along the boards at 13:30 of the first period. He limped to the dressing room without putting much weight on his left leg and did not return.
Christian Wolanin was recalled from Abbotsford of the American Hockey League to take Ekman-Larsson's spot in the lineup and was a plus-3 in 15:51 of ice time in a 6-2 win against the Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday.
Wolanin is tied for fourth in the AHL in scoring and leads AHL defensemen with 55 points (six goals, 49 assists) in 49 games.
"Puck-moving defenseman, see what he's got," Tocchet said Saturday. "This is evaluation time to see if he can do some stuff we're looking for."
Vancouver forward Curtis Lazar is day to day with a lower-body injury sustained in the third period against the Rangers.
Thatcher Demko didn't dress against the Flyers after planning to be the backup goalie as part of his return from a groin injury that has kept him out since Dec. 1. Demko practiced in full for the first time on Feb. 14 and said he hoped to play next week, but left practice early Thursday and wasn't at the morning skate Saturday.
Tocchet downplayed reports he suffered a setback.
"He skated five or six days in a row, so we just wanted to give him a maintenance day," Tocchet said. "I think he's fine." -- Kevin Woodley
