Teuvo Teravainen has a concussion and will not travel with the Hurricanes for their five-game road trip, which begins against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Wednesday (5 p.m. ET; SUN, FS-CR, ESPN+, NHL.TV).
The forward has not played the past two games since sustaining the injury in a 5-3 win against the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday. He has nine points (two goals, seven assists) in 12 games this season.
Goalie Petr Mrazek practiced with the team for the first time since having right thumb surgery Feb. 3.
He was injured during a collision with Hurricanes forward Max McCormick in a 4-1 win against the Dallas Stars at PNC Arena on Jan. 30. Mrazek returned to the ice Feb. 11, working on drills, but none involving catching or using a stick.
"Until he puts a stick in his hand, he's not really there, but he looks good on everything else," coach Rod Brind'Amour said. "He's still a ways away apparently. Once he puts a stick in there and starts going full tilt, then I think we can get excited that he might be back."
Mrazek is 2-1-0 in four games this season. He led the NHL in goals-against average (0.99), save percentage (.955) and was tied for first in shutouts (two) at the time of the injury.-- Kurt Dusterberg
