Welcome to the NHL Buzz. Throughout the 2021-22 season, NHL.com will have you covered with the latest news.

San Jose Sharks

Erik Karlsson will not play for the Sharks against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday (10:30 p.m. ET; NBCSCA, BSSUN, ESPN+, NHL LIVE).
The defenseman is day to day with an upper-body injury. Sharks coach Bob Boughner said it is not the same injury that caused him to miss two games this month.
"You could probably tell last game (a 3-2 loss to the Seattle Kraken on Thursday) that he wasn't 100 percent," Boughner said. "He tried to muscle through it but just can't go today. It'll be reevaluated."
Karlsson scored 26 points (eight goals, 18 assists) in 33 games this season.

Edmonton Oilers

Tyson Barrie and Zack Kassian will not play for the Oilers against the Calgary Flames on Saturday (10 p.m. ET; CBC, SN, CITY, ESPN+, NHL LIVE).
Barrie, a defenseman, sustained an upper-body injury in a 6-0 loss to the Florida Panthers on Thursday. Kassian, a forward, is out with an illness.
Barrie scored 17 points (three goals, 14 assists) in 35 games; Kassian scored 13 points (five goals, eight assists) in 28 games.-- Derek Van Diest

Montreal Canadiens

Jonathan Drouin was placed on injured reserve and returned to Montreal to have his upper-body injury evaluated.
The forward was given a major penalty and a game misconduct and was fined $5,000 for cross-checking Tyler Seguin at 12:00 of the third period of a 4-3 overtime loss at the Dallas Stars on Thursday.
Drouin scored 20 points (six goals, 14 assists) in 32 games.
Defenseman Jeff Petry, forward Josh Anderson and goalie Sam Montembeault each had therapy days Friday and did not practice.
Petry and Anderson played at the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday. Montembeault was scratched with a minor upper-body injury and is day to day. Goalie Michael McNiven was recalled from the taxi squad and backed up Cayden Primeau. -- Sean Farrell

Boston Bruins

Brad Marchand was in the lineup when the Bruins defeated the Winnipeg Jets 3-2 on Saturday, one day after coach Bruce Cassidy said he likely would not play.
"It's been a little bit of a whirlwind. I didn't really expect to play today either," Marchand said. "It's hard to sit out a game. It's going to take a lot to sit out if you feel like you can play through it. Part of the culture in this organization is if you feel you can play, you've got to battle through it. You almost feel like you're letting the guys down if you sit out."
Marchand sustained an upper-body injury in a 4-3 win against the Washington Capitals on Thursday on a hit from forward Garnet Hathaway at 6:48 of the second period.
Marchand leads the Bruins in goals (20), assists (23) and points (43) in 33 games after being held without a point in 19:35 against the Jets.

New Jersey Devils

Dougie Hamilton is progressing from a broken jaw and is week to week for the Devils.
The defenseman was injured after he was hit by a shot in a 4-3 overtime win against the Washington Capitals on Jan. 2 and had surgery three days later. He resumed skating Monday.
"He's now 16 days out from his surgery and he's starting to skate with our skills coach," New Jersey coach Lindy Ruff said Saturday. "You know he's getting a step closer to being back playing."
Hamilton scored 20 points (seven goals, 13 assists) in 30 games this season.
Defenseman Ty Smith was placed on injured reserve with an upper-body injury sustained in a 4-1 loss to the Arizona Coyotes on Wednesday.
