NHL Buzz: Edmundson makes season debut for Canadiens

Edmonton Oilers

Josh Archibald will make his season debut for the Oilers against the Tampa Bay Lightning (10 p.m. ET; CBC, SN, SN360, CITY, BSSUN, ESPN+, NHL LIVE).
Archibald was out with myocarditis, an inflammation of the heart muscle, after contracting COVID-19 in the offseason. He is unvaccinated and is not allowed to travel with the Oilers to games in the United States.
"I've been welcomed with open arms, so it's good to be back," Archibald said Saturday. "It's a little different being it mid- to end-season now, but for me, I treat every game the same and I think that's what I have to do tonight; treat it as a hockey game and go out and play."
Archibald scored 13 points (seven goals, six assists) and had 37 penalty minutes in 52 games last season.
"I'm excited for what he can bring to the table for our team tonight," Oilers coach Jay Woodcroft said. "Obviously he skates really well, he gets in on the forecheck, he's a good penalty killer. He has experience in this league on good teams and I know he's really excited to play tonight, so I'm looking forward to watching him play."
Defenseman Tyson Barrie will return after missing three games with an upper-body injury, and goalie Mike Smith will backup Mikko Koskinen after missing two games with an illness. -- Derek Van Diest

San Jose Sharks

Adin Hill could return from injury to start for the Sharks against the Los Angeles Kings (9:30 p.m. ET; NBCSCA, BSW, ESPN+, NHL LIVE).
The goalie has not played since Jan. 22 because of a lower-body injury but took part in practice Friday, and San Jose coach Bob Boughner said he likely would start.
Hill was 9-11-1 with a 2.78 goals-against average, .901 save percentage and one shutout in 24 games (21 starts) this season.
Goalie James Reimer skated Friday and could return next week. He has missed three games with a lower-body injury.

Dallas Stars

Braden Holtby has a lower-body injury and was scratched for the Stars against the New York Rangers on Saturday.
The goalie is 10-10-1 with a 2.78 goals-against average and .913 save percentage in 24 games (22 starts) this season.
Jake Oettinger started Saturday and Adam Scheel was recalled from Texas of the American Hockey League to back up.

Montreal Canadiens

Joel Edmundson made his season debut for the Canadiens against the Seattle Kraken on Saturday.
The defenseman had not played this season because of a back injury. He scored 13 points (three goals, 10 assists) in 55 games last season.
"He's a solid, tough-to-play-against defenseman and I'm looking forward to getting him back into some action," Canadiens coach Martin St. Louis said. "I'm sure he'll kill (penalties)."
Goalie Jake Allen, who has been out since Jan. 12 with a lower-body injury, is progressing but will not play this weekend. Montreal plays at the Philadelphia Flyers on Sunday.
Goalie Carey Price, who has not played this season because of a knee injury, skated Saturday and is progressing but there is no timeline for his return.

Seattle Kraken

Forwards Joonas Donskoi and Alex Wennberg did not play for the Kraken at the Montreal Canadiens.
Donskoi was placed on injured reserve with an undisclosed injury; he has 17 points (two goals, 15 assists) in 57 games this season. He did not play in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Ottawa Senators on Thursday.
Wennberg scored 26 points (seven goals, 19 assists) in 60 games and missed his first game.
Forward Kole Lind played after being recalled from Charlotte of the American Hockey League on Friday.

Philadelphia Flyers

Scott Laughton is out for the Flyers because of a concussion.
The forward left a 6-3 loss to the Florida Panthers on Thursday in the second period after being checked by defenseman Petteri Lindbohm and falling into the boards, and did not play in a 3-1 loss at the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday.
Laughton scored 28 points (11 goals, 17 assists) in 54 games this season.
Forward Morgan Frost was recalled from Lehigh Valley of the American Hockey League and replaced Laughton on Saturday (no shots on goal in 12:41 of ice time).

Pittsburgh Penguins

Brock McGinn is out week to week with an upper-body injury for the Penguins.
The forward was injured in the second period of a 5-2 win against the Vegas Golden Knights on Friday.
McGinn scored 18 points (11 goals, seven assists) in 56 games this season.
