Roman Josi is not expected to play against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Sunday (7 p.m. ET; MSG, BSSO, ESPN+, SN NOW) after sustaining an undisclosed injury in the first period of a 3-2 overtime loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday.
The defenseman left the game against Winnipeg in the first period after playing 11 shifts totaling 10:06 of ice time. He did not return and the Predators said they would have an update on his status prior to playing the Rangers.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported Sunday morning that Josi did not make the trip with the team to New York.
Josi leads the Predators with 59 points (18 goals, 41 assists) in 67 games this season.
The Predators are expected to recall a defenseman from Milwaukee of the American Hockey League prior to the game. It could be Jordan Gross, who is Milwaukee's leading scorer among defenseman with 31 points (eight goals, 23 assists) in 45 games. Gross also has three goals in 10 games with the Predators this season.
The Predators are also missing defensemen Ryan McDonagh and Alexandre Carrier, who are both day to day with upper-body injuries. It's possible one of them could return against the Rangers. -- Dan Rosen
