Ilya-Samsonov-Leafs

Welcome to the NHL Buzz. The 2022-23 regular season is underway, and NHL.com has you covered with all the latest news.

Toronto Maple Leafs

Ilya Samsonov was a full participant in practice for the Maple Leafs on Tuesday.
The goalie has missed the past 12 games with a knee injury he sustained in a 2-1 win against the Boston Bruins on Nov. 5.
"I'm happy to be back, it's really important for me," Samsonov said. "Last couple days, I feel no pain. I'm so excited and am ready to play."
Coach Sheldon Keefe said Samsonov remains day to day and will be reevaluated on Wednesday prior to Toronto's game against the San Jose Sharks (7 p.m. ET; SN, NBCSCA, ESPN+, SN NOW).
"It seems like he is feeling good," Keefe said. "He's got a lot of good work in both on the road and again here today. Today was a big step for him. It wasn't an overly extensive practice for us today, but he was still able to get some work in a team setting with a little bit of 5-on-5 in front of him, so that's part of his progression. In terms of where he goes from here, we will just call him day to day at this point. Any player recovering, [the medical staff] always wants to see how he is the day after he pushes it, so we will get a better sense (Wednesday) maybe of what the next step looks like."
Samsonov is 6-2-0 with a 2.23 goals-against average and .921 save percentage this season.

Minnesota Wild

Jonas Brodin is not expected to play for the Wild against the Edmonton Oilers at Xcel Energy Center on Thursday because of a lower-body injury.
The defenseman had an assist and three blocked shots in 17:57 of ice time in a 4-3 win against the Arizona Coyotes on Sunday.
"This happened in the game," Wild coach Dean Evason said. "When he woke up, he was in pain, obviously, and had it looked at."
Evason said the Wild don't currently have a time frame for Brodin's return but hope to have more information Wednesday.

San Jose Sharks

James Reimer was placed on injured reserve Monday with a lower-body injury.
The goalie last played in a 5-2 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Friday. Aaron Dell was recalled from San Jose of the American Hockey League and backed up Kaapo Kahkonen in a 4-3 overtime loss to the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday.
Reimer is 5-8-2 with a 3.00 goals-against average, .903 save percentage and one shutout in 15 games this season.
Forward Jeffrey Viel was also recalled from San Jose of the AHL and could make his season debut when the Sharks begin a four-game road trip at the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday (7 p.m. ET; TSN2, RDS, NBCSCA, ESPN+, SN NOW).
