The game has been rescheduled for Sunday, May 1, at 2 p.m. ET. The regular season had been scheduled to end Friday, April 29.
"The decision to postpone the game at this time was made in order to minimize the potential disruption to the regular-season schedule in the event the severe weather that is expected to hit the Winnipeg area were not only to force cancellation of tomorrow night's game, but also prevents timely and necessary post-game travel, including, specifically, the Jets' ability to travel for their game in Florida on Friday, April 15," the NHL said in a statement.
Environment Canada predicted a storm that could bring 12-18 inches of snow and high winds around the city starting Tuesday. A spokesperson for the service told the Winnipeg Sun that it could be the worst blizzard in decades to hit southern Manitoba. Environment Canada said Wednesday afternoon that blizzard conditions were developing throughout the region and widespread highway closures had occurred. Blowing snow is expected to continue to be a problem Thursday, but conditions should improve Friday with winds tapering off, the agency said.
The Jets (35-28-11) are seven points behind the Dallas Stars for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference.
