MTL@OTT: Giroux sets up DeBrincat's overtime winner

Alex DeBrincat scored his second goal of the game 59 seconds into overtime to give the Ottawa Senators a 5-4 win against the Montreal Canadiens at Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa on Saturday.

DeBrincat won it with a one-timer off a pass from Claude Giroux on the power play. The goals were the forward's first for Ottawa since being acquired in a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks on July 7.
Shane Pinto had two goals and an assist, and Giroux had three assists for Ottawa. Mads Sogaard made 11 saves on 14 shots before being replaced by Antoine Bibeau (one save) at the start of the third period.
Jake Evans scored twice, and Rem Pitlick and Justin Barron each had a goal and an assist for Montreal, which has lost its first four preseason games. Cayden Primeau made 29 saves.
Evans gave the Canadiens a 1-0 lead at 16:54 of the first period when he finished a pass from Pitlick on a 2-on-0 following a Senators turnover.
Evans then made it 2-0 from the edge of the crease with 59 seconds left in the period after Mike Matheson lofted the puck to him from the right point.
DeBrincat cut it to 2-1 at 7:41 of the second period when he spun and scored with a wrist shot from the left face-off dot.
Pitlick pushed it to 3-1 at 14:49 on a one-timer from the right circle, but Pinto cut it to 3-2 with his own one-timer on a power play at 15:54.
Barron restored Montreal's two-goal lede on the rush at 10:33 of the third period, but Mathieu Joseph responded 20 seconds later to cut it to 4-3.
Pinto tied it 4-4 with a one-timer on the power play at 14:40.
Hurricanes 4, Panthers 3:Brent Burns scored two goals, including the game-winner, in his Carolina Hurricanes debut, a 4-3 victory against the Florida Panthers at PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Andrei Svechnikov and Martin Necas each had a goal and an assist, Jaccob Slavin had two assists, and Frederik Andersen made seven saves for Carolina.
Rudolfs Balcers, Ryan Lomberg and Zac Dalpe scored, and Chris Tierney had two assists for the Panthers. Spencer Knight made 43 saves.
Burns, who was acquired in a trade with the San Jose Sharks on July 13, gave Carolina a 1-0 lead at 6:12 of the first period.
Svechnikov pushed it to 2-0 at 11:56.
Balcers scored 48 seconds into the second period to cut it to 2-1, and Lomberg tied it 2-2 at 4:52.
Dalpe then gave Florida a 3-2 lead with a power-play goal at 9:16, but Necas tied it 3-3 at 14:44.
Burns scored his second of the game at 9:00 of the third period for the 4-3 final.
Bruins 4, Flyers 0:Marc McLaughlin and John Beecher each scored twice for the Boston Bruins in a 4-0 win against the Philadelphia Flyers at TD Garden in Boston.
Patrice Bergeron, who signed a one-year contract on Aug. 8, had an assist in his preseason debut for Boston. Linus Ullmark made 21 saves.
Felix Sandstrom made two saves for the Flyers before being replaced at the start of the second period by Troy Grosenick, who made 20 saves.
McLaughlin gave the Bruins a 1-0 lead with a power-play goal at 7:09 of the second period, tipping a point shot from Jack Ahcan. He then made it 2-0 at 11:55 of the third when he poked in a loose puck at the side of the net.
Beecher extended the lead to 3-0 at 15:23 before scoring a short-handed, empty-net goal at 17:12 for the 4-0 final.
Bruins forward Fabian Lysell left the game in the first period with an undisclosed injury after he was checked into the boards.

McLaughlin, Beecher tally twice in Bruins' 4-0 win

Sabres 3, Penguins 1:Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen made 32 saves for the Buffalo Sabres in a 3-1 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins at KeyBank Center in Buffalo.
Victor Olofsson and Tage Thompson each had a goal and an assist for the Sabres.
Drake Caggiula scored, and Tristan Jarry made 32 saves for the Penguins.
Olofsson opened the scoring at 12:14 of the second period, beating Jarry with a one-timer from the right circle.
Thompson made it 2-0 at 18:22 when he joined a rush on a delayed penalty, received a pass from Chase Priskie and scored from the right circle.
With Jarry on the bench for an extra skater, Caggiula slid a backhand past Luukkonen at 18:24 of the third period to cut it to 2-1.
Caggiula then hit the post with 43 seconds remaining before Jack Quinn shot into an empty net 20 seconds later for the 3-1 final.

Sabres top Penguins at home, 3-1

Blue Jackets 2, Capitals 1: Yegor Chinakhov's third goal of the preseason broke a tie in the third period, and the Columbus Blue Jackets defeated the Washington Capitals 2-1 at Nationwide Arena in Columbus.
Chinakhov put Columbus ahead at 6:46 with a wrist shot from the right face-off circle.
Sean Kuraly had two assists, and Elvis Merzlikins made 34 saves for the Blue Jackets.
Aliaksei Protas scored, and Charlie Lindgren made 18 saves for the Capitals.
Protas gave Washington a 1-0 lead on a rebound at 7:01 of the first period.
Carson Meyer tied it 1-1 from the low slot at 12:03.
Stars 5, Blues 2:Mason Marchment scored his third goal of the preseason for the Dallas Stars in a 5-2 win against the St. Louis Blues at Cable Dahmer Arena in Independence, Missouri.
Will Butcher had three assists, and Jake Oettinger made 15 saves for Dallas.
Pavel Buchnevich and Logan Brown scored, and Joel Hofer made 22 saves for St. Louis.
Jacob Peterson gave the Stars a 1-0 lead at 17:06 of the first period, and Marchment made it 2-0 at 18:55.
Ryan Shea extended the lead to 3-0 at 19:21 of the second period.
Buchnevich cut it to 3-1 with a power-play goal at 6:48 of the third period, but Wyatt Johnston scored off a pass from Marchment at 7:27 to make it 4-1.
Fredrik Olofsson then pushed it to 5-1 at 12:49 before Brown scored his fourth of the preseason at 14:03 for the 5-2 final.
Red Wings 3, Blackhawks 0: Lucas Raymond had a goal and two assists for the Detroit Red Wings in a 3-0 win against the Chicago Blackhawks at United Center in Chicago.
Jakub Vrana had a goal and an assist in his preseason debut, and Alex Nedeljkovic made 14 saves in two periods for the Red Wings. Sebastian Cossa stopped all seven shots he faced in the third to preserve the shutout.
Alex Stalock made 32 saves for the Blackhawks.
Vrana gave Detroit a 1-0 lead at 1:44 of the third period, scoring on a one-timer from the low in the right circle off a pass from Raymond.
Dylan Larkin made it 2-0 at 11:46, and Raymond scored at 14:29 for the 3-0 final.

Nedeljkovic, Cossa combine for shutout in 3-0 win

Oilers 3, Jets 2 (SO) -- Stuart Skinner made 33 saves for the Edmonton Oilers in a 3-2 shootout win against the Winnipeg Jets at Canada Life Centre in Winnipeg.
Jason Demers and Tyler Benson scored, and Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg each had an assist for the Oilers.
Cole Perfetti scored two power-play goals, Pierre-Luc Dubois and Ville Heinola each had two assists, and Connor Hellebuyck made 25 saves for the Jets.
Benson gave the Oilers a 1-0 lead at 14:54 of the first period, intercepting a clearing attempt by Heinola up the boards and scoring on a snap shot.
Perfetti tied it 1-1 at 16:43, knocking in his second rebound attempt during a 5-on-3 power play. He then put the Jets ahead 2-1 at 8:50 of the third period.
Demers, who is in training camp on a professional tryout contract, tied it 2-2 at 11:12 when he scored off a cross-ice pass from Holloway on a 5-on-3 power play.
Devin Shore scored the lone goal in the shootout for Edmonton.

Skinner stops 33 in a 3-2 shootout win over Jets

Kraken 4, Canucks 0:Philipp Grubauer made 17 saves for the Seattle Kraken in a 4-0 win against the Vancouver Canucks at Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle.
Grubauer has stopped all 27 shots he's faced in two games this preseason.
Yanni Gourde had two goals and an assist, and Alex Wennberg had a goal and two assists for the Kraken.
Thatcher Demko made 22 saves for the Canucks.
Matty Beniers gave Seattle a 1-0 lead at 6:42 of the second period, beating Demko glove side from the high slot.
Wennberg scored 58 seconds into the third period to push it to 2-0.
Gourde made it 3-0 at 7:15 before he shot into an empty net with 2:45 remaining for the 4-0 final.
