#NHLTopPlayers: Top Wings, Nos. 10-1

The ability to score thrilling goals, make eye-popping passes, and go to the net with superb skating are the hallmarks of an elite wing. NHL Network producers and analysts chose the top 20 wings in the League right now, and Nos. 10-1 were revealed Friday in the fourth of an eight-part series featured on "NHL Tonight." Here is the list:

10. Blake Wheeler, Winnipeg Jets

The right wing scored 65 points (22 goals, 43 assists) in 71 games this season, the fifth consecutive season he's scored at least 60 points and his seventh straight with at least 20 goals. Wheeler had back-to-back 91-point seasons in 2017-18 and 2018-19; he tied for the League lead in assists in 2017-18 (68) and finished third last season (71). He's ranked first or second on the Jets in scoring in eight of the past nine seasons and has missed only six games in that span.

"Big power body (6-foot-5, 225 pounds), plays with finesse, plays with a little bit of jam, goes to the middle," NHL Network analyst Kevin Weekes said. "I think he's also done a great job in the leadership department up there, highly accountable, big fan of his."

9. Mark Stone, Vegas Golden Knights

Stone scored 63 points (21 goals, 42 assists) in 65 games to top the 60-point mark for the fifth time in the past six seasons. He led Golden Knights forwards in ice time per game (19:25) and was second in shorthanded ice time per game (1:56). The right wing finished tied for second in the League in takeaways (78), one season after he was the runner-up for the Selke Trophy, awarded to the best defensive forward. Stone has 74 points (26 goals, 48 assists) in 83 games with the Golden Knights and led them with 12 points (six goals, six assists) in seven Stanley Cup Playoff games last season.

"What I love about him is he comes to play every game, you don't have to wind his watch," Weekes said. "As one Western coach told me, 'This is the guy you put out on the ice and you say, go play hockey.'"

8. Jonathan Huberdeau, Florida Panthers

Huberdeau led the Panthers in points with 78 (23 goals, 55 assists) in 69 games this season after leading them with 92 points (30 goals, 62 assists) last season. He led the Panthers in power-play points (29), was second in ice time per game among forwards (18:46) and became their all-time leader in points (437). The left wing had seven games with at least three points this season and helped the Panthers advance to the Stanley Cup Qualifiers.

"Most underrated man in the National Hockey League, in Jonathan Huberdeau, their all-time points leader in their franchise down there in south Florida," Weekes said. "I just love watching him play."

7. Mitchell Marner, Toronto Maple Leafs

One season after leading the Maple Leafs with 94 points (26 goals, 68 assists), Marner finished second with 67 points, including a team-high 51 assists. The right wing led Toronto forwards in average ice time per game for the second straight season (21:33) and scored 24 power-play points, his fourth straight season with at least 20. Marner was selected to play in the 2020 Honda NHL All-Star Game and helped the Maple Leafs advance to the Qualifiers, where they have a chance to advance to the playoffs for the fourth straight season.

"He is one of the best players in the League," Weekes said. "People said when he played in London (Ontario Hockey League), he reminded them of Patrick Kane and you now see why."

6. Brad Marchand, Boston Bruins

Marchand scored 87 points (28 goals, 59 assists) in 70 games this season, the fourth straight season he's had at least 85 points. During that span, he ranks fifth in the NHL with 357 points (137 goals, 220 assists) in 297 games. The right wing led Bruins forwards in average ice time per game (19:27) and helped them win the Presidents' Trophy with the best record in the NHL. Marchand leads all scorers with 40 points (13 goals, 27 assists) in 36 games during the past two postseasons.

"This shift disturber has become a star player and I'm a big proponent of his game, especially when he's coloring inside the lines," Weekes said. "He makes everyone around him better, he comes to play and keep in mind a great example for you young players."

5. Patrick Kane, Chicago Blackhawks

Few players have been more dynamic or consistent during the past decade than Kane, who finished eighth in the NHL in scoring this season with 84 points (33 goals, 51 assists). He's scored at least 20 goals in each of his 13 NHL seasons and is third in scoring since entering the League in 2007 with 1,022 points (389 goals, 633 assists). The right wing had a 15-game point streak (11 goals, 13 assists) from Nov. 2-30, the second-longest in the NHL this season, and helped the Blackhawks earn a berth in the Qualifiers.

"The youngest American-born player in history to 1000 points," Weekes said. " …When it's all said and done, Buffalo's own Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks is the best American-born player."

4. Alex Ovechkin, Washington Capitals

His 48 goals tied him for the League lead, and he won the Video: MTL@FLA: Huberdeau buries Haula feed from in front for a record ninth time. The left wing has scored at least 48 goals in six of the past seven seasons and won the Conn Smythe Trophy as Stanley Cup Playoff MVP in 2018 after helping the Capitals win the Cup. He is second in points (1,278) among active players.

"You know what the best thing about Ovi is? This guy is a bull every game," Weekes said. "The fact that he's in pursuit of the great Wayne Gretzky's goal scoring record, tells you everything you need to know."

3. Nikita Kucherov, Tampa Bay Lightning

Kucherov won the Hart Trophy winner as NHL MVP last season, when he scored 128 points (41 goals, 87 assists), the most in a season since 1995-96, and increased his points total for the fifth straight season. In 68 games this season, Kucherov had 85 points (33 goals, 52 assists) with a plus-26 rating to help the Lightning earn a berth in the playoffs. The right wing ranks second in the NHL with 398 points (153 goals, 245 assists) in 304 games during the past four seasons, behind only Edmonton Oilers center Connor McDavid (421).

"Smooth, slick and facilitates offense the way center icemen do, as does Patrick Kane," Weekes said. "I'd like to see him bring his top energy on a game-to-game basis, because when he does he's a top five player in the world."

2. David Pastrnak, Boston Bruins

The right wing tied Ovechkin for the League lead in goals with 48, and his 95 points in 70 games were tied for third with Artemi Panarin of the New York Rangers. Pastrnak's 20 power-play goals and 10 game-winning goals led the League and his 38 power-play points ranked third. Pastrnak has increased his goals and points totals in each of the past three seasons and has scored at least 34 goals and 70 points in each of the past four. He has 39 points (15 goals, 24 assists) in 36 playoff games in the past two seasons, second among all players behind Marchand.

"I was fortunate to play with two Czech superstars in the great Jaromir Jagr and Patrik Elias, who I think will be a Hall of Famer, and now it's nice to see another young one," Weekes said. "David Pastrnak, who makes plays, who scores goals, he electrifying. I love watching him play for the [Bruins]."

1. Artemi Panarin, New York Rangers

In his first season with the Rangers, Panarin tied Pastrnak for third in the League with 95 points (32 goals, 63 assists) in 69 games. The left wing ranked first in the League in even-strength points (71) and was first among forwards in plus/minus rating (plus-36). He had at least one point in 54 games and helped the Rangers advance to the Qualifiers. Panarin was named a finalist for the Video: MTL@FLA: Huberdeau buries Haula feed from in front as the most outstanding player in the NHL as voted by fellow members of the NHL Players' Association. He has 415 points (148 goals, 267 assists) in 391 games in his five NHL seasons and has never scored fewer than 27 goals or 74 points in a season.

"Let me tell you this right now, he's a Hart Trophy candidate for league MVP, along with Leon Draisaitl," Weekes said. "In metro New York, there hasn't been a better free agent signing in all of pro sports than Artemi Panarin. End of story, in years, in every sport."
