NHL Trade Buzz: Coyotes likely won't move Hall

Welcome to the NHL Trade Buzz. There are 12 days remaining until the 2020 NHL Trade Deadline (Feb. 24 at 3 p.m. ET), and NHL.com has all the important news, rumblings and analysis heading toward the deadline.

Arizona Coyotes

The Coyotes want to make a run at the Stanley Cup Playoffs with Taylor Hall, even if it means risking losing the forward as a free agent after the season.
Arizona (28-23-8) has a one-point lead on the Winnipeg Jets (29-24-5) for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference.
TSN reported Coyotes owner Alex Meruelo is willing to keep Hall and risk him leaving as an unrestricted free agent July 1. The report said Meruelo, Coyotes general manager John Chayka and Hall's agent Darren Ferris had dinner together in Montreal on Sunday and all parties decided to delay contract talk until after the season.
The Coyotes acquired Hall in a trade with the New Jersey Devils on Dec. 16 and are 9-11-4 since then.

Columbus Blue Jackets

Josh Anderson can become an unrestricted free agent July 1 and the Blue Jackets must decide if they are going to attempt to re-sign the forward or trade him.
"It's their decision," Anderson told The Athletic. "Either they want you or they're going to move on from you. So I guess we'll just wait and see."
Anderson scored 27 goals last season but has scored one in 26 games this season and has been out since Dec. 14 with a shoulder injury. He's in his sixth season with Columbus and would like to stay.
"Absolutely, I love it here," he said. "I mean, why wouldn't I? For sure I would (sign) if the numbers are right."

Columbus (30-17-10) holds the first wild card into the playoffs from the East.

New York Rangers

Rangers GM Jeff Gorton and Matt Keator, the agent for Chris Kreider, have discussed a new contract for the forward, according to TSN. Kreider can become an unrestricted free agent July 1.
The Rangers (28-23-4), who are nine points behind the Philadelphia Flyers (31-19-7) for the second wild card from the East, also are looking into possible trades for Kreider.
The report said that if the Rangers sign Kreider, it could mean they will look to trade forward Ryan Strome, forward Pavel Buchnevich or defenseman Tony DeAngelo, each of whom can become a restricted free agent July 1.

Los Angeles Kings

Kings goalie Jonathan Quick said he isn't happy goalie Jack Campbell and forward Kyle Clifford were traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Feb. 5 and understands more disappointment could be coming as the Kings look to the future.
Los Angeles (19-33-5) was last in the Western Conference and 30th in the NHL.
"As a group, collectively, we have to feel responsible for that because this is happening because of where we are in the standings," Quick told The Athletic. "This stuff doesn't happen if you're in a playoff position and things like that."
The website said two Kings discussed ahead of the trade deadline are defenseman Alec Martinez and forward Tyler Toffoli. Martinez and Quick were teammates on Stanley Cup championship teams in 2012 and 2014. Toffoli won the Cup in 2014.
"You deal with it when and if it happens," Quick said. "At the end of the day, we're lucky and grateful to be able to play in this league. You're just thankful for the opportunity to have played with guys like Kyle. We played together for 11 years."

Carolina Hurricanes

The Hurricanes likely will have two first-round picks in the 2020 NHL Draft and could be willing to include one in a trade if it results in them getting a top-four defenseman, according to The Athletic.
In addition to their pick, the Hurricanes will get the Toronto Maple Leafs' first selection, if it's outside the top 10, from the Patrick Marleau trade.
Carolina could use an impact defenseman with Dougie Hamilton out indefinitely after having surgery to repair a broken left leg Jan. 17. The Hurricanes (32-21-3) are two points behind the Flyers for the second wild card into the playoffs from the East.
Owner Tom Dundon reportedly would rather not have the Hurricanes pursue pending free agents, which could rule out defensemen Sami Vatanen of the New Jersey Devils and Brenden Dillon of the San Jose Sharks, each of whom can become an unrestricted free agent July 1.
