Max-Domi-OFX

Welcome to the NHL Trade Buzz. There is one day remaining until the 2023 NHL Trade Deadline (3 p.m. ET; Friday). Here's a look around the League at the latest deadline doings.

Chicago Blackhawks

Max Domi will not play for the Blackhawks against the Dallas Stars at United Center on Thursday for what the team called "roster management."
Chicago has traded several players since Friday, including forward Patrick Kane, who was sent to the New York Rangers on Tuesday. Defenseman Jack Johnson was traded to the Colorado Avalanche on Friday, and defenseman Jake McCabe and forward Sam Lafferty were traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Monday.
Domi, a forward, leads the Blackhawks this season with 49 points (18 goals, 31 assists) in 60 games. He signed a one-year, $3 million contract with Chicago on July 13.
Domi was a deadline-day acquisition last season for the Carolina Hurricanes, who got him from the Columbus Blue Jackets in a deal involving the Florida Panthers.
"As of right now I'm sitting here talking to you, so that's really all I'm concerned about," Domi said Thursday morning. "Once I get up from this chair and walk away, I'll think about [the deadline]. I'm just trying to be wherever my two feet are right now."

Calgary Flames

Defenseman Rasmus Andersson is hoping the Flames will be buyers before the deadline.
"I hope they do something, obviously, but it's not my job and I'm not focused on that," Andersson said. "I believe in this group and all 23 players in here believe in this group. We're just trying to win hockey games here."
The Flames find themselves in a precarious position leading into the deadline.
Calgary (27-21-13) is five points behind the Winnipeg Jets and Seattle Kraken for the first and second wild cards into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference.
General manager Brad Treliving told NHL.com, "you've got to be careful how far you chase it when you're in the position we're in" in early February with Calgary in closer proximity to a playoff spot.
"We have a good team here, good players," forward Andrew Mangiapane said. "If we add players it'd be great, but if we don't we still have a great team in here that we can still make the playoffs and go on a run at the end."
The Flames, however, haven't won more than three in a row this season, and haven't won consecutive games since Jan. 21-23.
Calgary has four wins in the past 12 games (4-5-3) and hosts the Toronto Maple Leafs at Scotiabank Saddledome on Thursday (9 p.m. ET; TVAS, SNW, TSN4, ESPN+, SN NOW) in its final game before the trade deadline.
"At the end of the day we have a really good team in the room here," forward Tyler Toffoli said. "We take a lot of pride and every one of us wants to win. Regardless of if we make a move to get better or not, we believe in ourselves and we just have to get the job done."

Ottawa Senators

Pierre Dorion kept his promise to Claude Giroux.
The Senators general manager told Giroux that he would get a defenseman, and he did just that, acquiring Jakob Chychrun from the Arizona Coyotes on Wednesday.
"I probably shouldn't say this, but I made a promise to Claude Giroux that we'd get a defenseman before the end of the year: we got him a defenseman," Dorion said Thursday.
Arizona received a conditional first-round pick in the 2023 NHL Draft, a conditional second-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft and a second- round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft for Chychurn.
The 24-year-old has 28 points (seven goals, 21 assists) in 36 games with Arizona this season. Chychurn is in the fourth season of a six-year contract that he signed with the Coyotes on Nov. 13, 2018, and can become an unrestricted free agent after the 2024-25 season.
Giroux signed a three-year, $19.5 million contract with Ottawa as a free agent on July 13, 2022.
If the Senators make any more trades ahead of Friday's 3 p.m. deadline, they won't involve goalie Mads Sogaard, forward
Ridly Greig
or defenseman
Tyler Kleven
.
Dorion on Thursday said "We're not giving those three players up."
Sogaard was named NHL Rookie of the Month for February on Wednesday. The 22-year-old is 4-0-1 with a 2.33 goals-against average and .922 save percentage. He became a starter when Anton Forsberg suffered MCL injuries to his left and right legs in a 6-3 loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Feb. 11. Greig, a first-round pick (No. 28) in the 2020 NHL Draft has four points (one goal, three assists) in 11 games for Ottawa this season and 24 points (12 goals, one assists) in 31 games with the Belleville of the American Hockey League.
Kleven, a second-round pick (No. 44) in the 2020 draft, is playing at the University of North Dakota where the Fargo native he has 14 points (six goals, eight assists).

Boston Bruins

The Bruins continued to load up by acquiring Tyler Bertuzzi in a trade with the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday for a conditional first-round pick in the 2024 NHL Draft (top-10 protected) and a fourth-round pick in the 2025 NHL Draft. Detroit will retain 50 percent of Bertuzzi's salary.
The 28-year-old forward can become an unrestricted free agent after the season. He'll give the Bruins additional grit and scoring in the final stretch of the regular season and the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Boston needs depth at the position with Taylor Hall on long-term injured reserve and Nick Foligno on IR, each with a lower-body injury. By being placed on LTIR, Hall will be out for a minimum of 24 days and 10 games.
Forward Jakub Lauko was recalled from Providence of the American Hockey League for the game against the Buffalo Sabres at TD Garden on Thursday.

Nashville Predators

The Predators appear to be a team in transition with 13 picks in the 2023 Upper Deck NHL Draft: two each in the first, second and fifth round, three apiece in the third and fourth, and one in the sixth.
The picks were accrued by trading defenseman Mattias Ekholm (Edmonton Oilers), and forwards Mikael Granlund (Pittsburgh Penguins), Tanner Jeannot (Tampa Bay Lightning) and Nino Niederreiter (Winnipeg Jets) in a span of five days.
Nashville (29-23-6) is eight points behind Seattle and Winnipeg for the two wild cards into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference, with two games in hand on the Kraken and three on the Jets. Barry Trotz will take over as general manager July 1 for David Poile, who has held the position since the Predators joined the NHL in 1997.
"It's part of the business where you've got to acquire assets, and it seems like it's the time," Trotz said Monday. "Other teams want your best assets, especially this time of year."
THe Predators also acquired defenseman Tyson Barrie from the Oilers and defenseman Cal Foote from the Tampa Bay Lightning.
"Those are tough decisions for sure," Trotz said. "But if you look at the return, that's a pretty massive return. That could [mean] drafting players, and that takes time. But also, those assets can be used to move the process along as well."

Anaheim Ducks

John Klingberg and Dmitry Kulikov did not play for the Ducks against in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Washington Capitals on Wednesday for trade related reasons.
The defensemen can each become unrestricted free agents July 1. Klingberg, 30, has 24 points (eight goals, 16 assists) in 50 games for Anaheim this season, while Kulikov, 32, has 15 points (three goals, 12 assists) in 61 games.
There has been a run on defensemen in the past few days, with Vladislav Gavrikov going from the Columbus Blue Jackets to the Los Angeles Kings, Mattias Ekholm was traded from the Predators to the Oilers for a package that included Tyson Barrie, Luke Schenn was traded from the Vancouver Canucks to the Toronto Maple Leafs, Riley Stillman was traded from the Canucks to the Buffalo Sabres, Jake McCabe was traded by the Chicago Blackhawks to the Maple Leafs and Dmitry Orlov was traded by the Washington Capitals to the Boston Bruins.
The Ducks (20-34-8) are last in the Western Conference, 26 points out of a playoff spot.
