After his third season with the Montreal Canadiens, the forward was named team captain. Suzuki is the 31st, and youngest,
captain in team history.
He is also just the second full-time captain of Asian heritage in NHL history. Hockey Hall of Fame forward Paul Kariya, who was captain of the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim from 1996-2003, was the first.
Suzuki addressed Canadiens fans in both English and French in a video message posted to the team's Twitter.
"Hi everyone. It's an honor to be named captain," he said. "Thank you all for your comments and tweets. It's truly an honor. Go Habs go!"
